TOWN OF WHEATON  — The 56-year-old Elk Mound man who died March 5 when he pulled out with his pickup truck in front of semi on state Highway 29 in the Town of Wheaton has been identified as David R. Creaser.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department sent an e-mail to local news outlets March 6 identifying Creaser and the semi driver.

The driver of the semi tractor was identified as Russell F. Hayes, 53, of Rio, Wisconsin.

At about 8 a.m. March 5, the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department received a call about a pickup truck and semi collision at the intersection of Highway 29 and 50th Street, according to a news release from the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident investigation determined that the 1996 Dodge pickup truck had stopped on the north side of Highway 29 at the 50th Street intersection and had attempted to cross Highway 29 to continue traveling south.
