DURAND — There was one point in the 2017-2018 season when Colfax was looking at a potential Dunn-St. Croix championship.
But that was before losing senior Treyton Teige for several games due to a sprained ankle, and then junior George Scharlau for the season due to a broken arm.
The Vikings have been in most games they’ve played since both players were injured, but have not always been able to get over the hump. The team regained Teige in time for last week’s final conference contest at Durand, and put up quite a fight, losing by just 68-59 to the conference champions.

The visiting Vikings were down by 15 at halftime, but put together a 38-point effort in the second half to outscore the Panthers on their home hardwood. Still, the Durand boys finished the game ahead by nine, making them this year’s Dunn-St. Croix champions.
Junior Ben Thompson continued his solid season with 20 points against the Panthers, while sophomore Noah Albricht showed some fire to pick up 16. Luke Heidorn earned 10 points in the game, Teige picked up six, Ed Hydukovich accounted for four, and Jackson Hellmann completed the score with three.
The game’s highest score went to Durand’s Riley Radle, who picked up 22 in the game.
