News for the Week of January 28th to February 3rd:
Sunday was a well-deserved day of rest for many of the staff that helped with our 2018 Wine Tasting Event. Everyone had a great time and once again we were amazed at the turn out. All agreed that this year’s event was the best ever and we are already starting to make plans for next year’s gala.
[emember_protected] Monday morning sewing group met in the Square to continue working on our pet blanket project. The stack of finished blankets is adding up and we will soon be delivering them to the local clinics. The afternoon found many in the East Dining Room for a fun word challenge. The group worked together to complete a giant crossword puzzle. It was fun to see if our answers were right and the puzzle came together correctly. Many reminisced on how doing crossword puzzles was one of our favorite past times.
Residents gathered in the Square early Tuesday morning for our monthly Breakfast Club. Before we ate, next month’s activity calendar was reviewed and special events were discussed. Among the activities scheduled in February is the Valentine’s Day celebration with a Surf and Turf Luncheon followed by a Sweetheart’s Dance in the afternoon. At the end of the month our Liver Lover’s Club will sit down to a delicious meal of liver and onions. Chad and Holly Berge of Berge’s Beef were kind enough to donate the meat and we can’t wait to taste it! Some of the entertainment for February includes Rich Schroeder, Chuck Kirkwood and Friends, Billy Krause, Mary Farber and Riverboat Randy. After the meeting Chef Andy treated us to Country Fried Ham Steak, scrambled eggs, hash browns, cinnamon rolls and toast. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle and Eileen always keep the game running smoothly.
We gathered in the Square Wednesday morning for our weekly church service with Pastor Barker. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. Residents gathered in the afternoon for a Sing a Long with Kathy Irwin. We always look forward to her visits as she leads us in an hour of singing our favorite tunes.
Thursday morning found many in the East Dining Room for an hour of Kicking Karaoke. Tony leads the group that combines our favorite songs with a little exercise. The afternoon found a group of residents gathering for our monthly Resident Council. We reviewed next month’s activities and menu and discussed future activities and meals that residents might like.
Friday morning found our Catholics gathering for rosary. Another favorite past time, Gospel Sing a Long followed in the Square. The afternoon was spent in the Square with an hour of Dime Bingo.
Next week will be another busy week here at Colfax Health and Rehab. Besides our regular bingo we will gather for an afternoon of Blackout Bingo. Residents will invest some of their winnings from Dime Bingo for a chance at a much larger prize. It should be fun. Later in the week we look forward to a visit from one of our favorite entertainers, Rich Schroeder.
Until next week, Barb Stobb, Activity Director [/emember_protected]
