Bulldogs boys sustain road loss to Vikings

COLFAX — Boyceville head boys’ basketball coach Ben Luer was succinct in his assessment of the Colfax boys after last Thursday’s road trip.

“Colfax is a good team with good players that you can’t leave open,” he said after the game. “We learned a lot from the last time we played them, and I thought our guys improved a lot this time around.”

While the Bulldogs left the Vikings’ home court later that night on the bottom end of a 62-51 score, Luer added the team took some good lessons from the contest that will be useful moving forward.

Boyceville actually led for much of the opening half, but allowed Colfax to go on a scoring run just prior to intermission that gave the home squad a 12-point advantage heading into the second half. The Bulldogs may have outscored the Vikings 29-28, but were not able to close the gap in the end.

Senior Bryce Boda led the visiting Dogs with 14 points, while Jayson Gonzales scored 12, and Luke Knudtson put together 11. Logan Knudtson chalked up nine, Bryce Larson put up three, and Cooper Boesl was good for two.

The Bulldogs hosted Elk Mound January 30, and welcome Elmwood/Plum City to Boyceville February 2. They will play a non-conference contest against Eau Claire Immanuel February 6, and then head to Mondovi February 8.

Boyceville was 1-7 in the Dunn-St. Croix, and 4-10 overall at the end of last week.
