The Colfax Dance Team began working back in August to prepare for that one moment on the floor to show their skills and they did just that this past Saturday, January 27 at the WACPC Western Regional Competition in Wausau, WI.
The Division 5 Pom in the Western Regional had the toughest competition and the least amount of teams to advance than the Southern and Eastern Regionals.
With less than half the teams advancing in Division 5 Pom, Colfax took the last state qualifying spot placing 6th place out of 14 teams. They earned the highest points in visual effectiveness, pom placement, and accuracy. Colfax finished very close in point value to the 4th and 5th place teams and plan to work hard to move up the ranks and be a strong competitor against the Division 5 teams from the other two regions performing their Pom routine at State on Saturday, February 3 in LaCrosse.
The team also competed in Division 2 Jazz. Again, the competition was intense. In Jazz, Colfaxcompete against larger schools as there are only two divisions in this category. They came in 12th out of 15 schools earning the highest points for their score in choreography and showmanship.
The team’s two soloists, Caroline Dworak and Haley Seston, competed in the individual competition. Both girls did an excellent job with their solos but will not be advancing to state as individual performers.
“The Colfax Dance Team is 10 girls strong,” said Coach Vicki Seston. “This team is athletically strong, academically strong, and extremely focused. It takes so much dedication to be on a team when the season is 8 months long. I am very proud of these ladies and all their hard work. I am very excited to see them dance on the state floor with the best teams in Wisconsin.”
The Colfax Dance team will be performing their Pom routine at halftime of Thursday’s girls home basketball game. Come watch, and wish them luck on Saturday.
