First 2018 St. Croix traffic fatalities occur January 20

On Saturday January 20, 2018, at about 5:01am, the St. Croix County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call from a motorist advising there was a vehicle that appeared to have crashed in the north ditch on County Road E, just west of County Road D, in Baldwin Township, St. Croix County.

The caller did not witness the crash, and was unsure of how long the vehicle had been there.

St. Croix County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and located a 2001 Ford crew cab pickup on its roof, with severe damage to the vehicle. As a result, all three of the occupants needed extrication.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Eduardo Flores Saldivar, age 32. The front seat passenger was identified as Milton Everaldo Valenzuela Favela, age 24. Both are from Minneapolis, MN. Eduardo Saldivar and Milton Favela were pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.

The rear passenger, Luis Nino De La Cruz, age 38, from the Twin Cities, was transported by Baldwin Ambulance to Western Wisconsin Health. He was later transferred to Regions Hospital, with serious injuries.

Early indications are that there were no seatbelts used by the occupants. Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, and investigators will await tests to see if alcohol was a contributing factor to this crash.

Assisting the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were United Fire and Rescue and the Baldwin Ambulance, Glenwood Ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.

This is the first and the second traffic fatalities for St. Croix County in 2018.
