Child dies in Town of Richmond house fire

On Monday, January 15, 2018, at about 3:15 p.m., the St. Croix County Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call about a structure fire at a residence on Margaret Street, in the Town of Richmond, St. Croix County. Initial reports were that there was a young child still in the residence.

The first responders to the scene consisted of the New Richmond Fire Department, the New Richmond Police Department, and the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office. Neighbors, family members and first responders attempted to gain access to the child, but due to the fire and heat, were not able to. The child died as a result of the incident.

The name of the child is being withheld until proper identification, and official notification, has been made. Assisting at the fire scene were the Somerset, St. Joseph and Roberts Fire Departments, as well as New Richmond EMS.

This investigation is ongoing, and is being handled jointly by the New Richmond Fire Department, St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office, and the WI State Fire Marshall.
