Elk Mound village board sets ballot for April, discusses possible “donations”

ELK MOUND — There are three people running for seats on the Elk Mound board of trustees this coming April.

Greg Kipp and Rebecca Livingston are seeking reelection to the seats they currently hold, while Paula Turner will be running to fill the seat vacated by Tony Schrantz in 2017. Turner was appointed in November to fulfill Schrantz’s term, and will be seeking election for a full term.

Prior to setting the ballot order, president Steven Abraham posed a question regarding the possibility, and legality, of placing a “donate” button somewhere on the village website.

He said the idea came to him as he was completing online donation transactions for several organizations he supports prior to the end of 2017.

“I thought it might be a good idea to have a way to receive money for things extra, over and above the budget we might have,” Abraham explained. “Or maybe for things that we don’t want to budget for, or can’t budget for, but desire to have.”

The village president also wondered if such donations would be considered tax deductible.

Hahn informed the board she had contacted village attorney Jason Brasch to ask him about the legalities of the idea, and would report on his response at a later time.

The board also unanimously approved donating the rental fee for the Village Park for the Matthew Baumgartner Annual 5K to be held July 29. [/emember_protected]
