BALDWIN — A man and his infant daughter were both found dead in an apartment in the Village of Baldwin Halloween afternoon.
According a news release from Baldwin Police Chief Darren Krueger, the Baldwin Police Department and EMS were dispatched to 280 Cedar Street, Apartment 54, in the Village of Baldwin at 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
The call was originally dispatched as a male and infant both shot, with a firearm present at the scene.
Upon arrival, one male, identified as Jeffrey Long, age 39, was found to be deceased with a gunshot wound to his head.
Also inside the residence was Jeffrey Long’s, 14-week-old daughter, Aubree Long, who was unresponsive. There was no evidence of a gunshot wound noticed on the child. Resuscitation efforts on the infant began immediately, but were unsuccessful.
A few days later, the Ramsey County, MN Medical Examiner determined, through autopsy, that the manner of death on Mr. Long was a suicide.
The medical examiner’s report noted that there were no external or internal trauma observed on the infant and that her cause of death is pending toxicology and microscopic testing.
On-going investigation into the incident will be handled by St. Croix County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The tragedy appeared to be isolated incident and there was no immediate danger to the public, the release stated.
Baldwin Police was assisted at the scene by the Baldwin Area EMS, Hammond Police Department, the St. Croix County Medical Examiner’s Office and the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.
