The theme for the Veterans Day program is “Honoring All Who Served.”

The month of November is being devoted in the Colfax school district to honoring national veterans and military families.

“This year will be unique in that we will be sharing essays on what a veteran means to our fifth graders,” said Trevor Hovde, principal at Colfax Elementary.

“Our elementary students will sing patriotic songs, and the middle school and high school bands, along with our high school choir, will perform as well,” he said.

Cookies and coffee will be available for veterans and visitors after the program.

The veterans will receive a special gift of thanks as well.

Elementary students have been baking apple pies for the veterans.

Lisa Neuburg, Colfax High School family and consumer science teacher, and her students have been helping the elementary students to bake the apple pies.

The annual Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 10, in the Colfax High School gymnasium.

The public is invited to attend.

Veterans Day is November 11 and is held on the anniversary of the end of World War I on November 11, 1918, and replaced Armistice Day in 1954.

Armistice Day is still observed by many other countries, including Belgium, France and the United Kingdom.

Armistice Day commemorates the signing of the armistice between the Allies and Germany at 11 a.m. November 11, 1918 — the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. [/emember_protected]
