HAMMOND — The Lady Vikings’ golf team played its final match of the 2017 season last Wednesday at Hammond’s Pheasant Hills Golf Course.

Colfax, one of ten teams competing in the WIAA Division 2 Baldwin-Woodville Regional tournament held September 27, completed the day with 444 strokes to finish in ninth place. While the team did not advance to sectional play, sophomore Abby DeMoe earned an individual spot in the Division 2 Luck Sectional which was held this past Monday, October 2 at the Frederic Golf Course.

DeMoe again led the team at the regional meet, picking up 47 strokes in the front nine before swinging for 48 shots in the back for a total of 95 on the day to finish fifth on the final individual leaderboard. This DeMoe’s second consecutive year competing in the sectional match. A year ago, she fared well in both regional and sectional tournament and earned a berth in the 2016 WIAA Girls State Golf meet as a freshman.

Middle Border teams Somerset and Baldwin-Woodville took the top two team finishes. The Spartans edged the host Blackhawks by a single stroke – 394 to 395 – to take the regional championship. Amery senior Annie Lorsung won regional medalist honors with a score of 88.

The top two teams and top four individuals from non-qualifying teams earn berth to the sectional meet.

Haley Seston, another Colfax 10th grader, finished the day with a score of 115 after shooting for 59 on the front nine, and taking just 56 strokes on the back. Yet another Vikings’ sophomore, Morgan Schleusner, played the full course in 116 strokes after having won through to sectional competition as a freshman.

Senior Amanda Christianson completed her high school golf career with a score of 118. She played the front nine holes in 60 strokes before shaving two shots off her score in the back nine for 58. Junior Abby Klueckmann completed the team, scoring 70 on the front nine and 67 on the back for a total of 137.

If DeMoe earns a state berth again this year, she will play a 18-hole round each next Monday, October 9 and Tuesday, October 10 at Madison’s University Ridge Golf Course.
