News for the week of September 17th to the 23rd:
Monday morning found the Green Leaf Crafters meeting in the Square to work on fall banners for our doors. Last week we dyed coffee filters to a bright yellow and today we started turning them into sunflowers which will adorn the top of the banners.
We always enjoys this hour of a little work and lots of visiting. The halls filled with the pitter patter of little hooves in the afternoon as Finnegan the miniature horse and his family came to visit. It was quite the site as Fin led the group which consisted of Lilly and her foal called Dually and Pickles and her baby named Squeaks. Just a fun fact about Squeaks, he is now about a month old and doing great, but he only weighed 7 pounds when he was born! It was fun to see how much the foals have grown since the last time they were here. Later that afternoon we enjoyed cocktail hour in the Square.
Tuesday morning found many in the East Dining Room for an hour of Stretch and Stories. Tony leads the group that combines fun exercises and our favorite stories. The afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteer Michelle always makes sure this fun hour runs smoothly.
Pastor Schroetter led us in our weekly church and communion service. Everyone enjoyed his message and we appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. The afternoon found us back in the Square for an hour of music by Billy Krause. Billy’s busy schedule has kept him away for a few months, and everyone was glad that he was able to come and share his beautiful songs with us again.
Thursday morning, residents gathered in the East Dining Room for our weekly volleyball tournament. This activity brings out our competitive side, and all agree it’s a fun way to get some exercise. Later it was out to the gazebo, to enjoy the wonderful aroma of charcoal chicken cooking. As it was a beautiful late summer day, we thought we would get in one more batch of flip flop chicken before the coolness of fall sets in. The afternoon found many in the Square to enjoy ice cream sundaes. As residents watched the antics of I Love Lucy on the big screen TV, the staff served up the delicious ice cream treats.
The Catholics gathered on East for our Friday morning rosary group led by Loretta. Later in the Square we held Gospel Sing a Long. Kathy and Bruce lead us in this hour of music and prayer as we pick out our favorite hymns to sing. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
The first full week of fall will be a busy one at the Big Yellow House. Some of the activities planned are a baking group with Chef Andy where he will show us how to make chocolate truffles, music in the Square with Peggy and Bob, on Thursday our Resident Council will meet. We will end the week with a trip to the apple orchard.
Until next week, Barb Stobb, Activity Director
