CHS homecoming dance at Viking Bowl September 29

By LeAnn R. Ralph

COLFAX — Hoping to breathe new life into the event, this year’s Colfax High School homecoming dance will be held at the Viking Bowl & Lounge.

Members of the student council came up with the idea to hold the homecoming dance in a different location in conjunction with their advisor, Connie Gibson, said John Dachel, principal at Colfax High School.

The student council then brought the idea to Dachel and Bill Yingst, district administrator.

“I hope it turns out well. We’re hoping for more participation and to get more students involved,” Dachel said.

Dachel reported on homecoming activities and the change in venue for the dance at the Colfax Board of Education’s September 18 meeting.

This year’s homecoming football game will feature the Vikings playing Mondovi at 7 p.m. Friday, September 29.

The dance will be held from 9 p.m. until midnight Friday at the Viking Bowl.

Coronation of homecoming royalty will be at 10 p.m.

The Colfax school district will be providing bus transportation to the bowling alley for any student who does not have a way to get there, Dachel said.

“We’ll load as many kids as we can on the bus, and we’ll make as many trips as we have to,” he said.

The cost will be $5 per student and will include bowling, soda pop, and a slice of pizza from Little Italy.

Food also can be ordered off the Viking Bowl menu for an additional charge.

Activities

Homecoming week, Monday through Friday, from September 25 to September 29, is filled with activities at Colfax High School.

Monday was colors day for CHS students, with seniors wearing black, juniors wearing blue, sophomores wearing gray and freshmen wearing green.

Tuesday was “twin day.”

Wednesday is “pajama day,” and Thursday will be “jersey day.”

Friday will wind up with “red and white day.”

Contests are taking place during the noon hour Monday through Thursday in the high school gym.

The hallways at Colfax High School will be decorated in red and white this year as part of the class competitions.

Bonfire

The traditional homecoming bonfire will be held at the Colfax Fairgrounds Thursday, September 28, following the volleyball game against Elk Mound.

The junior varsity volleyball team will play at 5:45 p.m., and the varsity volleyball game will begin at 7 p.m.

The bonfire is expected to start around 9 p.m.

After the bonfire is lit, a pep rally will include recognition of the teams, announcement of the homecoming royalty and class skits.

Friday pep rally

A “pre-activities” pep rally will be held in the gymnasium at Colfax High School at 1 p.m. Friday.

The pre-activities rally will include the pep band, cheers, introduction of the homecoming royalty, a dance team performance, individual dance performances, a teacher dance, and an explanation of afternoon games that will be held outside, weather permitting.

Ultimate Frisbee will begin at 1:30 p.m. and will include 15-minute games of seniors versus sophomores and juniors versus freshmen. Other activities will include class triathlons and a faculty kickball game.

An “end of the day” pep rally will be held at 3 p.m. and will include results of the activities, the announcement of the class winner and fan contest winners as well as an informal photograph for the class spirit award.

The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America organization (FCCLA) will be operating the concession stand during the football game against Mondovi.

Homecoming royalty will again be introduced during the game at halftime.
