Names released in vehicle-buggy crash
WILSON — The Wisconsin State Patrol has released the names of the individuals involved in horse-drawn Amish buggy versus a sports utility vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of State Highway 128 and US Highway 12 early last Monday morning, June 26.
All three individuals that were riding in the buggy were injured including one seriously.
The driver of the horse-drawn buggy has been identified as Alvin J. Borntreger, 19 along with his female passenger, Fannie F. Mast, 18 and a 17 year-old whose name was not released because she is a juvenile. All three were from the Wilson area.
Borntreger and the unidentified 17 year-old female were transported by Baldwin EMS to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN with non-life threatening injuries. Mast, who was ejected from the buggy in the crash, was found unconscious and air-lifted by a Life Link helicopter to Regions. The current medical conditions of all three occupants of the buggy are not known at this time.
The driver of the 2014 Honda Pilot that struck the Amish buggy from behind has been identified as Vanessa Jo Bennett, 33, of Glenwood City, who also received some non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Western Wisconsin Health in Baldwin. Bennett was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
According to a release from the Wisconsin State Patrol, the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. Monday, June 26 on Wisconsin State Highway 128 and US Highway 12 just a mile west of the Village of Wilson in the Town of Springfield. Bennett apparently struck the horse-drawn buggy from behind while traveling on State Highway 128. Mast was ejected from the buggy during the impact and was unconscious when emergency personnel arrived on the scene.
The investigation is currently active and any enforcement action is pending its conclusion.
