Four dead in Chippewa County traffic accident

TOWN OF COLBURN — A two-vehicle accident late Saturday afternoon, May 27 in the Chippewa County town of Colburn has claimed four lives and left five others with serious injuries.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call regarding the two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Hwy 64 and County Highway G about halfway between Cornell and Gilman shortly after 5:00 p.m. Saturday. The caller reported a number of people injured and requested EMS.

Upon arrival, the preliminary investigation indicated that a northbound vehicle on County Highway G failed to stop/yield at the intersection of G and Hwy. 64 and struck a west bound truck pulling a trailer.

The northbound vehicle was a mini van driven by Cara L. Stevens, age 23 of Eau Claire, WI. The west bound a pickup truck, pulling an enclosed trailer, was driven by David J. Kummer, age 47 of Medford, WI.

Passengers in the mini van were Mikaila S. Toske, age 23 of Eau Claire, WI; Raven A. Ellin, age 21 of Eau Claire, WI; and Jonathan M. Jorgensen, age 36 of Eau Claire, WI.

Passengers in the pick-up truck were Kristine J. Kummer, age 46 of Medford, WI; Cody J. Kummer, age 26 of Medford, WI; Michael A. Molitor, age 60 of Medford, WI; and Nicole A. Rooni, age 32 of Medford, WI.

Deceased are Mikaila S. Toske, Raven A. Ellin, Jonathon M. Jorgensen, and Kristine J. Kummer.

The traffic accident investigation is being conducted by the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

All parties involved were air lifted and or transported by ambulances to area hospitals in Eau Claire.
