12 honor students at Glenwood City High School
GLENWOOD CITY — The Glenwood City High School Class of 2017 has 12 honor students. The valedictorian Tia Carlson and salutatorian Taylor Drinkman are featured in a separate story in our graduation section. Below are the 10 other honor students.
Kaylie Scalze
Kaylie is the daughter of Mike and Amy Scalze.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. I will never forget the hot and long bus ride down to Florida that bonded us Marching Band kids together. Any large DECA Conference is also unforgettable, our DECA field trip to Fallon Advertising, being on the podium with our 4×8 team at State Track, and my last two years of Cross Country with the best group of girls one could hope for.
• List your favorite high school classes. Any business class I took during high school would have to be on my list of favorite classes because they helped shape my future. Also, any class I took with Mr. Ketola because he made complicated science accessible and interesting, plus his stories were always the best and craziest.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? NHS (2014-2017), DECA (2014-2017), Student Council (2013-2017), Show Choir (2013-2015), Art Club (2013-2017), Class President (2013-2017), School Newspaper (2013-2015), Band/Choir (2013-2017), All-School Musical (2014 & 2016), UWEC Honors Band (2015), All-Conference Honors Choir (2013-2017), Solo Ensemble (2031-2017), Marching Band (2012-2016), Pep Band (2013-2016), Basketball (2013-2015), Track (2014), Cross Country (2015-2016), Golf (2017).
• What are your plans after graduation? I will be attending the University of Minnesota to major in Graphic Design and double minor in Management and Fashion studies. It is my hope to become the Chief Branding Officer for a major company someday.
Kelsey Magsam
Kelsey is the daughter of Kerry and Darla Magsam.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable event(s) were the senior class trip to Chicago and both musicals (Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat and Back to the 80’s). Other memories was Junior Prom and going to State for Football.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite high school classes were Teaching Youth, Child Development, and Interior Design. I enjoy anything that deals with teaching children. Teaching Youth and Child Development went into depth on children which will help me in my chosen career path.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? FCCLA – 4 years, Honors Choir – 2 years, Show Choir – 2 years, NHS – 2 years, Yearbook Club – 2 years, Pep Band – 4 years.
• What are your plans after graduation? I hope to be a nanny/babysitter throughout this summer for experience in the Early Childhood field. In Fall 2017, I plan on attending WITC in New Richmond for Early Childhood Education. After completing the program, I hope to become a successful early childhood educator.
Nicole Peabody
Nicole is the daughter of Samantha and Chad Peabody.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Shop clean up days, late nights working on Science Olympiad, Tape the Teach.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite classes were all of our shop classes. I love being able to build things and learn things that will help me in the future.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Track: 2 seasons, FCCLA: 1 year, Science Olympiad: 1 year, Tech Ed Club: 2 years, Academic Decathalon: 1 year, Art Club: 2 years, Destination Imagination: 1 year, Band and Choir: 3 years.
• What are your plans after graduation? I will be taking an online medical assistant course and the Residential Home Construction program at CVTC River Falls. I will continue working as a CNA at Glenhaven until these courses are completed.
Morgan Peterson
Morgan is the daughter of Ken and Karen Peterson.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. FCCLA State (2016 and 2017), softball bus rides and team bonding events.
• List your favorite high school classes. Any and all of the science classes as well as English class. They are my favorite because I love to read and learn more about the world, plus the teachers are so enthusiastic about what they teach.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Softball and basketball (2013-2017), FCCLA (2013-2017), President (2015-2017), Art Club (2013-2017), Secretary (2015-2017), NHS (2015-2017).
• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to find a summer job that pays well to help with the expenses of college. I have been accepted into the pre-med program at UW-River Falls. I plan to attend there in the fall.
Jacob Traynor
Jacob is the daughter of Duane and Cindy Traynor.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The Florida Band trip and playing Monopoly until 2 a.m. with my friends Corey K. Nic J. and Bradley K. Also, all the amazing memories I have from Choir such as the musical, and of course hanging out and making friends.
• List your favorite high school classes. Every social studies class because that is the core subject I’m best at and Mr. Kieper and I have a lot in common. TAPS because it allowed me to gain experience and knowledge about teaching, and, of course, band and choir because that is where I thrive and I’ve made many friends through music, not to mention the fact that I loved my music teachers.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? DI: 2006-2015 and 2017, NHS 2016-2017, FCCLA 2016-2017, Show Choir 2013-2017, Shell Lake Arts Center Show Choir Camp 2012-2017, School Musicals 2014 and 2016, Honors Choir 2011-2017, Yearbook 2015-2017, Badger Boys State 2016, Youth in Harmony Festival 2014-2016, Solo Ensemble 2014-2017, Science Olympiad 2013-2014, Academic Decathlon 2015, Superior WI Diocesan Chorale 2015-2017, Roadside and Stream Cleanup 2014-2016, School Concessions 2013-2017.
• What are your plans after graduation? I am going to UW River Falls and will pursue a career in K12 Vocal Music Education. I also plan on working in a rural community after college graduation. Besides that, I intend to live my life to its fullest.
Jake Logghe
Jake is the son of Rob and Lisa Logghe.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My most memorable event from high school is being able to play football on Friday nights and representing our city.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite class in high school was physics because Mr. Ketola made it very enjoyable to learn. He knew how to have fun and get work done at the same time.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Football 9-12, Baseball 9-12, Wrestling 9-11, NHS 11-12, Class Officer 9-12, Ice Fishing Club 12.
• What are your plans after graduation? Right after graduation I have a summer job with the St. Croix County Highway Department. In the fall I am going to attend North Dakota State University in Fargo. I am going to study Industrial Engineering.
Jake O’Meara
Jake is the son of Angie Timm.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. I would say my freshman year football when we were at Camp Randall.
• List your favorite high school classes. Wildlife and Forestry – I enjoyed learning more about the outdoors; Biology – I liked Mrs. Ohman as a teacher and enjoyed learning about science-related things.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Wrestling – 2 years; Football – 4 years; Golf – 1 year.
• What are your plans after graduation? I plan to work at Mattison Contractors in the summer and attend UW-Stout in the fall for Construction Management.
Allen J. Croes
Allen is the son of Kevin and Roxanne Croes.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Being part of the 2013 State football team.
• List your favorite high school classes. Spanish – The rigor and challenge of the class; Physics – Physics taught how to use equations I will need in college; Band – Mr. Lamb made making music enjoyable.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Football (4 years), Basketball (4 years), Track (3 years), All-School Musical (2 years), Glenwood City History Club (3 years), National Honors Society (3 years), Band (4 years).
• What are your plans after graduation? I am planning to pursue a degree in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Jake Wittmer
Jake is the son of Jody Hetrick and Nathan Wittmer.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable event that I participated in was the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association state tournament. It was fun to be able to ice fish competitively against other schools in the state with a group of my friends.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite class was Wildlife and Forestry taught by Mr. VanderWaal. The class taught me about different aspects about the outdoors. It helped me to find out what I would want to pursue as a career.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? FFA (2015-2017), Baseball (2014-2016), Football (2013-2015), Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association State Tournament (2017).
• What are your plans after graduation? After graduation, I plan on attending Vermillion Community College to major in Wildland/Wildlife Law Enforcement.
Corey Klatt
Corey is the son of Don and Missy Klatt.
• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Some of my most memorable moments were the times with the cross country team. We were a small close team and liked hanging out with each other outside of school or practice.
• List your favorite high school classes. My favorite classes were my science, technology, and art classes. These were my favorites because they were fields I enjoyed the most.
• What activities were you involved in during high school? Cross Country – 4 years, History Club – 2 years, Track & Field – 4 years, Yearbook – 1 year, Art Club – 4 years, Marching Band – 4 years, Science Olympiad – 1 year, All School Musical – 2 years, Band and Choir – 4 years.
• What are your plans after graduation? I plan on getting a summer job and attending college in the fall. I plan on attending UW-Stout and I am currently undecided but am considering engineering or graphic design.
