12 honor students at Boyceville High School

BOYCEVILLE — The Boyceville High School class of 2017 has 12 honor students. Valedictorian Maxwell Engel and salutatorian Brooklyn Hellmann are featured in a separate story in our graduation section. Below are the 10 other honor students.

Hannah Guy

Hannah is the daughter of Barry and Heidi Guy.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. My favorite, most heartwarming memory was my junior year volleyball team. It was an unforgettable experience of love and success.

List your favorite high school classes. Advanced English 11 – because of Miss Ledgerwood, Advanced Art – because I was allowed to do any project I wanted, Sociology – because we learn how society functions and why.

What activities were you involved in during high school? Class VP (4 years), Student Council (4 years, VP senior year), Volleyball (4 years, 2 years Varsity Captain), Matrix Vball (2 years), 4th Grade Vball Coach (1 year), Spanish Club (1 year), Prom Committee (1 year), Visual Arts Classic (1 year), NHS (2 years), Menomonie Youth Optimist (November 2016).

What are your plans after graduation? I will be attending UW La Crosse this fall and majoring in microbiology to become an anesthesiologist.

Madysn Riek

Madysn is the daughter of Josh and Angie Riek.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. I forgot my shoes and kneepads at the school when we went to Amery to play volleyball and had to borrow a freshman’s pair who fortunately had the same shoes and size feet as me. Now I always check to make sure I have everything I need before I leave the school for an away game.

List your favorite high school classes. Advanced English 11 – Small class and we tended to go off topic, Advanced Algebra – I enjoy math and the teacher, Ag Leadership – I love being able to work on FFA stuff and it’s a nice break during the day to relax.

What activities were you involved in during high school? Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, FFA – All four years; National Honors Society (11th and 12th grade).

What are your plans after graduation? Attend UW-River Falls to study Pre-Veterinary medicine. I plan to major in animal science and minor in chemistry then move on to graduate school.

James Palmer

James is the son of Douglas and Sandra Palmer.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable event that happened to me in high school was going down to Madison for the state wrestling tournament and having the opportunity to win the championship alongside with two of my best friends who I had wrestled with my whole life.

List your favorite high school classes. Sophomore Biology with Mr. Skrove, he was a very enthusiastic and great teacher, AP Environmental science with Mrs. Willi, the outdoor projects sparked even more interest in my future career.

What activities were you involved in during high school? Football: Freshman ’13-’14; Baseball: Freshman-Senior, ’13-’17; National Honors Society: Junior & Senior ’15-’17; Wrestling: Freshman-Senior: ’13-’17.

What are your plans after graduation? I will be attending UW-Stout this fall pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science. I also plan to play baseball at the university.

Shania Crane

Shania is the daughter of Leila Krosnoski.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. In 2014, my Agriculture orientation class along with members of the FFA organization took a field trip to Valley Fair. It was one of many memorable high school trips. While we were there, multiple people asked me if I had lost my parents. I was just getting something to eat.

List your favorite high school classes. My favorite classes in high school were Spanish I, Spanish II, and Global Studies. In Spanish, I enjoyed learning new vocabulary, studying Spanish culture, and watching Spanish videos. In Global Studies, I enjoyed learning about the different parts of the world.

What activities were you involved in during high school? In high school, I was involved in several clubs. For two years, I was involved in the FFA organization through Agriculture Classes. I was involved in Spanish Club for my sophomore and junior year and the National Honors Society for the past two years.

What are your plans after graduation? After graduation, I plan to work at my current job while earning money to pay for my future college tuition cost and fees. I enjoy photography and plan to become a photographer in the future.

Erica Sempf

Erica is the daughter of Mary and Timothy Sempf.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Breaking the school record in the 4x100m relay and going to state with my teammates.

List your favorite high school classes. Physiology and Anatomy – interesting subject matter, Advanced English II – Great class discussion, Advanced Art – Great learning experience and fun to be creative.

What activities were you involved in during high school? Volleyball (4), Dance (4), Wrestling Cheerleading (4), Track and Field (3), Yearbook (3), Spanish Club (30, Student Council (4), Class Officers (4).

What are your plans after graduation? I will be attending the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. I will be pursuing a career in Medicine.

Tori Kostman

Tori is the daughter of Troy Kostman and Tessa Feeney.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable event from high school is the whole experience and becoming who I am today.

List your favorite high school classes. Advanced English 11 – lots of discussion and small class, Sociology – Mr. Engel keeps things interesting.

What activities were you involved in during high school? All 4 years: Softball, FCCLA, Wrestling Cheer; Science Olympiad (Freshman), Yearbook (Senior), National Honor Society (Junior and Senior), Fall Dance (Sophomore-Senior), Winter Dance (Freshman and Sophomore).

What are your plans after graduation? I plan to work as a CNA this summer and attend college in the fall, either at UW Eau Claire or St. Catherine University to major in Nursing.

Caleb Hagen

Caleb is the son of Kevin and Marcy Hagen.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Performing in my first musical was probably one of the most memorable moments. It was Once Upon a Mattress, and it was a lot of fun.

List your favorite high school classes. Art, Math, & Digital Media. Art because I’ve always been an artistically inclined person. I love to make art. Math because it has always made sense to me. I like to see the connections between numbers. Digital Media because it taught me Photoshop and video editing; skills that I use almost daily.

What activities were you involved in during high school? Track (4 years), Cross Country (sophomore year), VAC (freshman, junior and senior years), Fall play (senior year), spring musical (junior and senior years).

What are your plans after graduation? I do plan to get a job (not sure where). I plan to go to UW-La Crosse. I am entering as undecided but would like to go for business. I am also interested in the film industry.

Morgan Kuhn

Morgan is the daughter of Troy and Heather Kuhn.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. I can’t think of one specific event in high school but just all the memories made in school and sports with friends.

List your favorite high school classes. Advanced Algebra – like math, enjoyed the way it was taught. Advanced English 11 – group discussions.

What activities were you involved in during high school? All four years – volleyball, basketball, softball, FCCLA, Student Council; Senior year – yearbook committee.

What are your plans after graduation? I plan on working this summer and attending UW-Stout this fall for dietetics.

Tyler Krueger

Tyler is the son of Jerry and Noelle Krueger.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The most memorable event during my high school career would have to be my Junior year at state track. I placed 7th in pole vault and visited Grandad Bluff, where I buried the tape from the pole I first went 13 feet on.

List your favorite high school classes. General Biology, AP Environmental Science, and Anatomy were the most fun for me, mainly because of my teachers. Mr. Skrove and Mrs. Willi made me love science, and they have been the largest influence in choosing my major.

What activities were you involved in during high school? Sports: Track and field – 4 years; Football – 4 years,; Wrestling – 3 years. Other: National Honor Society – 2 years; VAC (Visual Arts Classic) – 1 year; Student Council – 4 years.

What are your plans after graduation? After graduation, I’ll be working at Cardinal FG until I leave for La Crosse, where I will be attending college. My major at this point is a pre-chiropractic degree, and I will follow that up with a chiropractic doctorate.

MaKenna Farrington

MaKenna is the daughter of David and Janette Farrington.

List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Moving schools and being able to experience both small and large schools. I have enjoyed meeting new people and finding some of my best friends.

List your favorite high school classes. English: I enjoy writing; Chemistry: I enjoy hands on lab and the test we can do. Phys and Anat: I find everything every interesting.

What activities were you involved in during high school? I played volleyball for 2 years and then did traveling for the school for 2 years. I am apart of National Honors Society for senior year.

What are your plans after graduation? This summer I plan to work as CNA. Then this fall I will be attending UWRF and will be majoring as a vet.
