With the regular season winding down, the weather is finally beginning to cooperate and as a result the Boyceville track and field teams were able to compete in a pair of area meets last week.

Boyceville thinclads competed in Amery May 2 where the ran headlong into some stiff competition.  The Lady Bulldogs came away with a 14th-place finish while their male counterparts were last out of 17 teams.

After a brief respite, Boyceville returned to competition May 4 in Colfax with much better results.

[emember_protected] The girls finished second after earning a team score of 83.50. The boys were fourth out of five teams in Thursday’s meet after picking up 47 points.

Amery

When you have a small track team, it can be hard to compete against upwards of 15 other teams at an invitational.

Such is the case for Boyceville, who packs a lot of talent into a small team of high school students.

This was on display at the May 2 Amery Invitational, where the girls scored 10 points to take 14th, and the boys were 17th with 10 points.

The Bulldog ladies earned their highest finishes in field events, with senior Brooklyn Booth taking fifth place in pole vault at 8-00.00. Anja Erickson of St. Croix Falls cleared 8-06.00 for the win.

Junior Paulina Wenke earned seventh place in shot put with a throw of 31-02.50. She was bested by Somerset’s Aly Meath and her 40-04.50 toss. Another junior, Haley Wold, copped eighth in discus with a 90-06 throw. Destinee Haas of Baldwin-Woodville earned the event win with a 151-09 throw.

St. Croix Falls took home top girls’ team honors after scoring 106 points.

The Boyceville boys’ 3200m relay team took seventh place in the race after crossing the finish line at the 9:16.66 mark. Amery’s team took the win in 8:43.65.

Vaulters Tyler Krueger and Brandon Kenefick both earned points in the pole vault. Krueger cleared 12-00.00 to take third, and Kenefick vaulted 10-06.00 for seventh. St. Croix Falls’ Tyler Henk vaulted 12-06.00 for the win.

St. Croix Central won the boys’ team competition with 111 points.
