Injuries slow Boyceville girls’ track and field at GC meet

GLENWOOD CITY — Boyceville track and field coach Corey Day was dismayed by his girls’ team’s finish in Glenwood City last Monday, but it had nothing to do with the team’s performance.
The Lady Bulldogs were plagued by a series of injuries that kept them from gathering more points to place higher in the five-team meet that also included the host Hilltoppers along with Elmwood/Plum City, Spring Valley and Somerset.
April 24 may have been a rough night for the Boyceville track teams, but a handful of personal best and season best performances helped the boys to fourth place with 58 points, and the girls to fifth with 59 points.
Brandon Kenefick cleared 12-00.00 for a personal record in pole vault after breaking his pole. He took second place behind his teammate Tyler Krueger, who vaulted 12-06.00. Senior Kiel Anderson beat his previous personal best in the 1600m race, finishing in 5:10.36 to win the event.
Glenwood City won the boys’ team award with 85 points.
Freshman Naomi Hillman beat her previous personal best time of 1:09.00 in the 400m dash by nearly two seconds, finishing in 1:07.92 to take fifth in the race. Elmwood’s Katie Feuker won the event with a time of 1:04.10.

Megan Hintzman and Emily Voelker both cleared 7-06.00 in pole vault to finish second (Hintzman) and fourth (Voelker). Boyceville vaulter Brooklyn Booth topped the event with a height of 8-00.00.
Haley Wold and Jasmine Windsor earned personal best distances in shot put. Wold threw a distance of 29-08.00 to take third in the event, while Windsor had a 28-08.00 throw for fourth. Somerset thrower Aly Meath copped the win with a distance of 40-03.25.
Somerset topped the girls’ team standings with 89 points.
The Bulldogs headed to Amery May 2, and are scheduled to compete May 4 meet at Colfax.
