BALDWIN — The Bulldog thinclads headed to their second outdoor meet of 2017 at Baldwin-Woodville and made a good showing.

The girls took fifth place in the April 11 invitational with 62.5 points, while the boys were 10th out of 12 with 28.5 points.

Head coach Corey Day said the team saw plenty of improvements after the first outdoor meet at St. Croix Central, but said there is still room to grow.

Senior Cassie Malean grabbed the girls’ team’s lone first-place finish with a gold in the high jump (5-00) and scored five more team points for her fourth-place finish in the 100m dash. The senior finished in 13.61, and was bested by Bloomer’s Kyra Arendt with a time of 13.14.

The next top-three finisher for the Bulldog ladies was thrower Paulina Wenke, who copped third in discus with a distance of 107-05. First place went to host Baldwin-Woodville’s Destinee Haas with a throw of 137-06.

Brooklyn Booth and Emily Voelker went second and third in girls’ pole vault. Booth cleared 7-06, while Voelker got over 7-00. Hayward’s Amber Heidenreich cleared 9-00 for the event win.

The Hayward girls took home the team trophy after scoring 118 points.

He finished in 56.92, while first-place finisher Blake Hoyer of Ellsworth clocked a race of 54.33. Kiel Anderson then picked up fourth in the 3200m race with his 11:27.68, less than a minute behind Eau Claire Regis’ Zach Yengo with his 10:39.50 race.

Boyceville’s boys’ 3200m relay team finished, right behind Glenwood City, with a 9:50.54. Ellsworth’s team nabbed the win with a time of 9:13.75.

The boys’ team earned its first top three finishes when Tyler Krueger and Brandon Kenefick went first and second at pole vault. Both cleared 11-00, but broke the tie on attempts.

The Hayward boys made the meet a clean sweep for the Hurricanes when they finished in first place with 110.5 points.

The Bulldogs took a short break for the Easter holiday, but will go to Colfax this Thursday before heading to St. Mary on Saturday, April 22.
