Elk Mound Drama takes audience down the rabbit hole to Wonderland

ELK MOUND — Drama students at Elk Mound High School and Middle School are performing a familiar childhood story for their 2017 production.

Director Sarah Jones, student director Kendra Potter, and a cast of 21 Elk Mound students will perform Tim Rice’s adaptation of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” the evenings of March 31 and April 1 at 7 p.m. The show is being performed by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc. of Englewood, Colorado.

“The play is about Alice’s fall down the rabbit hole and the fabulous creatures she meets in Wonderland,” Jones said. “It centers on Alice’s struggle to reach the eighth chess square, where she hopes to become a queen herself.”

Alice, portrayed by Amanda Holzer for the March 31 performance, and Danielle Wagner in the April 1 performance, meets a talking caterpillar, queens and kings, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, and even Humpty Dumpty while on her adventure.

Jones indicated the play was selected for this year’s production by the seniors, who have been interested in an “Alice” production for several years. 

“They have brought their vision to life through sets, props, and costumes,” Jones explained.

The high number of characters portrayed in the play meant Jones could use more students than usual, and included six students from the middle school.

“Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” will have only the two evening performances at the Elk Mound High School Auditorium. Tickets will be available at the door, and are $3 for students and seniors, and $5 for the general public.
