EAU CLAIRE — The Viking boys’ and girls’ track teams kicked off their seasons with a 10th-place finish for the ladies and a 12th-place finish for the gentlemen at UW–Eau Claire.

Colfax took only part of its track and field team to the March 17 Tomahawk Invitational indoor meet at UW-Eau Claire’s McPhee Strength and Performance Center. The Viking girls scored 23.33 points to earn their finish, while the boys scored nine points total.

Freshman, Morgan Schleusner, took the track next. She earned fifth place in the 55-meter hurdles, taking four points for the team with her 10.99-second finish, a little over one second behind first-place finisher Stephanie Brauner of Black River.

Senior Abbagail Schotter and junior Mackenzie Jensen started the Vikings’ long-distance season by finishing second and third respectively in the 1600-meter race. Schotter garnered eight points with her time of 6:37.30, and Jensen earned six for her 6:47.45 finish. Augusta’s Carolyn Schult won the race with a time of 6:26.01.

The trio cleared a height of six feet in pole vault, but it was Spencer’s Johanna Ellefson who came in first after clearing nine feet, six inches.
