News for the week of February 26th to March 4th:
If you noticed there has been no news from the Big Yellow House the last couple of weeks. That is due to a flu bug that made its way throughout the wings. During this time, most activities were kept to a minimum. We are now happy to announce, the BUG HAS LEFT THE BUILDING!!!
The Green Leaf Crafters were happy to get together again on Monday morning and worked on shamrock center pieces for the tables. Monday afternoon found a group of residents gathering for our monthly Resident Council. We reviewed next month’s activities and menu and discussed future activities and meals that residents might like.
It wouldn’t be Tuesday without a fast pace game of toss the ball. Several residents lined up in the dining room. Everyone came away the winner, with all getting a little exercise in the process. Tuesday afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle, and Eileen kept the game running smoothly. We also welcomed Mrs. Zutter and her students to our bingo hour. They have kindly agreed to assist us every Tuesday for the remainder of the school year.
Residents gathered in the Square early Wednesday morning for our monthly Breakfast Club. Before we ate, we discussed menu choices the residents would like for upcoming meals. The residents also chose next month’s breakfast special. It will be Strawberry Crepes. The Special Meal for this month was announced. For St. Patrick’s Day we will serve corn beef and cabbage, mashed potatoes with melted butter, cooked cabbage and shamrock dessert. The residents also decided to start a “Liver Lovers Club” and we will have our first delicious meal of liver in April. After the meeting Chef Andy treated us to Potato Pancakes, bacon slices and beverages. There was not a crumb left on any plates!
We gathered in the Square Wednesday morning for Ash Wednesday services with Pastor Eide. We appreciate her taking the time to come and share with us. We turned the Square into a movie theater for the afternoon and the smell of fresh popped popcorn drew a big crowd. We watched the movie Grumpy Old Men.
Thursday morning found our crafters gathered in the Square to finish up some of the fleece scarves we will be selling at our fall craft sale. Some made the pom poms that go on the end, while others sewed buttons on for fastening. The afternoon brought Trivia Time, and several residents gathered to see if they could be stumped by Cathy’s questions. All agreed they went away a little bit smarter! Cocktails and cards finished out our afternoon activities.
Friday morning we held Gospel Sing a Long in the Square. We love picking out our favorite hymns to sing. Cathy, Veda, Bruce and Bess led us in this hour of music and prayer. Friday afternoon, Dime Bingo was played in the Square. It is always a great way to end the week.
Until Next Week,
Barb Stobb, Activity Director
