News for the Week of January 29th to February 4th:
Sunday was a day of rest for many of the staff as the 2017 Wine Tasting Event was over. We were amazed at the turn out, and all agree that this year’s event was the best ever!
Leona visited on Sunday and shared her stories and poems with us.
Residents gathered in the Square early Monday morning for our monthly Breakfast Club. Before we ate, we discussed menu choices and special meals for the next month. After the meeting Chef Andy treated us to Country Fried Ham Steak, scrambles eggs, hash browns and toast. There was not a crumb left on any ones plate! After breakfast a special guest visited us. Senator Terry Moulton from the 23rd Assembly District took time to come and tour our facility. After the tour, he met with residents and staff to answer questions that they had. The discussion centered around problems with the health care industry today. In the afternoon residents gathered for our monthly Resident Council meeting. Next month’s calendar was reviewed, and special events were discussed. Among the activities scheduled are a Sweetheart’s Breakfast and a Norwegian Heritage Celebration. After the meeting Cocktail Hour found many in the Square to enjoy their favorite adult beverage and watch a Patrick Swayze movie.
It wouldn’t be Tuesday without a fast pace game of volleyball. Several residents lined up in the dining room for an hour of toss the ball. Everyone came away the winner, with all getting a little exercise in the process. Tuesday afternoon found our Bingo enthusiasts in the Square. All went away with bags full of treats. Volunteers Michelle, and Eileen kept the game running smoothly. We also welcomed Mrs. Zutter and her students to our bingo hour. They have kindly agreed to assist us every Tuesday for the remainder of the school year.
We gathered in the Square Wednesday morning for our weekly church service with Pastor Walck. We appreciate him taking the time to come and share with us. The afternoon activity featured one of our favorite musicians, Rich Schroetter. We enjoy listening to his beautiful voice and wonderful guitar playing.
Thursday morning craft group met in the assisted living. We continue to work on our decorations for our Valentines Day table decorations. The afternoon found Pat Sajack and Vanna White in the Square leading us in an hour of Wheel of Fortune. Well maybe Pat and Vanna didn’t show, but we still had a great time guessing the different phrases that Cathy had for us.
Friday morning found our Catholics gathering for rosary. Another favorite past time, Gospel Sing a Long followed in the Square. The afternoon was spent in the Square with an hour of Dime Bingo.
Next week will be another busy week here at Colfax Health and Rehab. Besides bingo and other activities, we will watch the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Riverboat Randy will entertain us on Thursday.
Until next week,
Barb Stobb, Activity Director
