The Colfax Varsity Dance Team competed in the WACPC (Wisconsin Association of Cheer/Pom Coaches) Western Regional Dance Competition held Saturday, January 28 in New Richmond.
The Vikings had their best showing in both Pom and Jazz, but only the top six teams in each genre move on to state, which was held in LaCrosse last Saturday, February 4.
The competition in Division 5 Pom was tough this year with all teams performing well. The Colfax dancers earned 7th place in Pom, just nine points behind the sixth place state qualifying team.
The competition in Division 2 Jazz is always difficult because there are only two divisions in this category and the girls compete against division 3 and 4 schools as well. In Jazz, Colfax placed eighth directly behind the larger schools.
There is a lot of hard work that goes into creating, practicing and performing their Pom and Jazz routines.
“It is sad that their competition season has come to an end without a state performance,” said coach Vicki Seston.
“Except the dance season never ends and the girls are excited to perform at the boys and girls basketball games,” added Seston.
“They have a couple new routines to perform for halftime entertainment, one with a Spanish flare and one from the 50’s. So, please come watch the halftime shows and support the basketball teams.”
