ELK MOUND — Eight members of the Elk Mound cross country team were selected as 2016 Academic All-state honorees by the Wisconsin Cross County Coaches Association.

Boys’ runner Cade Hansen and the girls’ team, consisting of Elizabeth Fasbender, Alana Plaszcz, Brook Plaszcz, Kirstin Martinson, Paige Romanowski, Victoria Fasbender and Taya Schaefer, were all awarded the honor after competing in the state meet in October 2016.

The eight runners were notified of the awards last week after each student earned a 4.0 grade-point average. In order to be selected for the honor, runners must compete in the state meet. The individual award is given to runners who earn a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 in the first nine weeks of school.

The team award is based on the cumulative GPA of the top five runners and the combined average must be above 3.4.

Coach Jeremiah Fredrickson said he could not be more proud of the runners for their work on the course and in the classroom.
