Bloomer/Colfax grapplers pinned by Barron, Cumberland

The Bloomer/Colfax wrestling co-op lost a pair of duals to conference opponents last week.

The Blackhawks started the week by facing the Barron Golden Bears on Monday, January 23 after the original January 17 dual had been postponed due to poor weather conditions. The Bloomer/Colfax team traveled to Barron with high hopes, but left on the short end of a 48-30 score.

The wrestlers took a three-day break before traveling to the Heart O’ North leader Cumberland for a meeting with the Beavers. The Blackhawks again left empty-handed after losing the Thursday match to Cumberland, 51-21. 

The team hosted the Hayward Hurricanes Tuesday in final conference and regular season competition. Bloomer/Colfax will open the tournament series at the Heart ‘O North conference meet in Barron this Saturday, February 4. The Division 2 regionals will be held the following Saturday, February 11, at Ellsworth High School.

Mitchel Harmon, Thomas Anderson and Cole Anderson-Olson represented Colfax when the Blackhawks went to Barron High School on January 23. The trio picked up two match wins between them.

Harmon, who continues to wrestle at 138 pounds, got a pin on Golden Bears’ Dayln Fowler at 1:56 to record six points for the Blackhawks. Tommy Anderson took on Derek Wohlk at 170 pounds, and made a contest of the match until Wohlk pinned him in the second period to give the Golden Bears six points.

Anderson-Olson earned points for two take-downs on Zach Miller before pinning the Golden Bear grappler at the 2:54 mark to take another six points for the Blackhawks.

Harmon, Anderson and Anderson-Olson also made the trip to Cumberland with the team. Harmon earned six points after pinning the Beavers’ Garett McClain at 1:42, Anderson fell to Trystin Neitzel at 1:39, and Olson defeated Gio Torres on a 5-0 decision.
