Colfax students pitch in for Salazar

By LeAnn R. Ralph

COLFAX  —  Students in the Colfax school district have been making cards and doing fund raisers for Linda Salazar, the owner of Mom’s Restaurant and Pub.

Salazar, age 67, suffered critical injuries when she was struck by a passing vehicle at around 5:30 a.m. Friday, December 9, while crossing Main Street in Colfax at Fifth Avenue.

She remains hospitalized in the critical care unit at Mayo Eau Claire.

“I had a few classes during guidance make cards for Linda last week. We also did a few other activities led by student organizations,” said Kelly Haskamp, elementary guidance counselor.

The middle school student council also organized a hat day, and students held a Packer Day on Friday, she noted.

Anyone who has been in Mom’s or knows Salazar knows that she is staunch Green Bay Packers fan.

At Colfax High School, the high school student council, FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), and the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) made contributions for Salazar, said Amy Bowe, high school guidance counselor.

The FCCLA also donated the proceeds from working concessions to Salazar, and the FBLA is selling candy grams this week, Bowe said.
