Mounder girls cop third at Durand cross country meet, boys fourth at Eleva-Strum

Coach Jeremiah Fredrickson’s Mounder cross country teams split up for two October 6 meets. The varsity girls went to the rescheduled Durand Invitational while the boys and middle school teams travel to Eleva-Strum for a meet.

Fredrickson wanted the girls to run the sectional course in Durand. The team scored 78 points to finish third out of ten teams.

The boys were fourth out of seven in Eleva-Strum with 86 points. The JV girls ran as a varsity team in Eleva-Strum and took fourth with 72 points.

Both Mounder teams will head to Mondovi on October 13 to participate in the Dunn-St. Croix conference meet. The sectional meet in slated for Saturday, October 22 at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Durand. The state meet is set for the following Saturday, October 29, at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Durand

Senior Elizabeth Fasbender led the way for the Mounder girls when they ran in Durand October 6. She took third place overall for her 21:19.7 race. Fasbender was seven seconds ahead of Alana Plaszcz, who took fourth place after crossing the finish line in 21:26.7.

Plaszcz’s twin sister, Brook, crossed the finish line at 23:23.1 to take 18th, Victoria Fasbender was 26th with her time of 23:43.2, and freshman Kristin Martinson ran to a 24:07.5 finish and placed 32nd.

Claudia Paul and Taya Schaefer completed the seven-person varsity team at Durand. Paul finished 35th with a race of 24:40.5 and Schaefer finished in 26:14.3 to take 57th. Sophomore Ciera Lind was the last Mounder to finish, taking 78th with her 29:41.8 finish.

The Prescott girls ran to first place as a team and Elmwood-Plum City’s Kassye Todd won the overall race with a time of 20:21.

Eleva-Strum

Freshman Cade Hanson once again led the Mounder boys, finishing fifth overall at the Eleva-Strum meet. He ran the race in 18:25.48.

Nate Schreiber, Seth Hazen and Andrew Pathos finished 18th, 20th and 22nd with times of 20:12.78, 20:15.21 and 20:17.97 respectively. Matt McLaughlin was the fifth Mounder to cross the finish line in Eleva. He took 34th for his 21:29.65 effort.

Junior Jonas Kohls and sophomore Dylan Hanson finished the scored runners for Elk Mound. Kohls took 38th after running a 21:58.49 race, and Hanson was 42nd with his 22:02.22 run.

Bowdrie Noller, Jake Johnson and Nate Bechel completed the boys roster at Eleva-Strum. Noller ran to a 22:09.54 finish to take 43rd, Johnson was 46th with his 22:30.40 run, and Bechel took 51st with a time of 23:46.02.

The Augusta Boys took home top team honors with a score of 37. Junior Dan Lau, of Eau Claire Immanuel High School, won the individual boys race with a time of 17:41.91.

Senior Meredith Hainstock was Elk Mound’s top finisher in the girls race at Eleva-Strum. She was 10th overall with her 24:44.07 finish. Ciera Lind was the second Mounder to finish, coming in 17th with a time of 26:32.08.

Kayli Solberg ran to a 27:05.57 finish and took home 22nd. Audrey Westcott and Hanna Cynor, both sophomores, were 23rd and 27th with times of 27:34.74 and 29:01.82. Hannah Carlson was the last Elk Mound runner to finish and took 29th for her 29:05.84 effort.

The Regis won first place in the team competition and Thorp’s Falon Immorina won the individual crown with a time of 20:48.77.

Middle School

Both Elk Mound middle school cross country teams copped the top spots at the Eleva-Strum meet on October 6. The girls had a final score of 18 and the boys scored 25.

Elk Mound’s top five female runners are all in the seventh grade. Olivia Schreiber was first overall, running the 3200-meter race in 15:28.14. Olivia Schindler and Lilly Tanula were third and fourth overall with times of 17:08.67 and 17:13.18.

Regan Jenson and Mercedes Hay were sixth and eighth with times of 17:33.29 and 18:08.44, and Sidney Wenzel and Lileana Williams were ninth and 20th. Wenzel ran to a 19:09.84 finish, and Williams raced across the finish line in 25:21.51.

The Elk Mound boys had five runners in the top five at Eleva-Strum. Luke Lesmeister was third overall with his 14:51.13 effort. Brennan Zais finished in 14:54.86 to take home fourth place. Keagan McRea was sixth with a time of 15:02.85, and Avery Lauer finished in eighth after running a 15:21.5 race. Luke Hanson took home 10th with his 15:59.58 finish.

Mitchell Hainstock, Walker Banaszack and Jackson Severson filled out the rest of the middle school boys team at Eleva-Strum.
