EAU CLAIRE — A 65-year-old former Colfax resident was killed in a motorcycle accident on Deerfield Road south of Eau Claire September 14.
According to a news release from the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department, 65-year-old John Olson died when his motorcycle collided with a cargo truck backing out of a driveway on County Highway II.
The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a cargo truck at 8:09 a.m. last Wednesday.
The initial investigation determined that a 2006 Isuzu cargo truck, operated by 52-year-old Allen Hadorn of Augusta, was backing out of a driveway onto Deerfield Road when an eastbound 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by 65-year-old John Olson of Eau Claire, collided with the truck, according to the news release.
Olson, who sustained serious injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hadorn was not injured in the crash.
The accident is still under investigation by the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department.
According to news reports, Eau Claire County Medical Examiner Chris Kruse said a flagger was assisting the truck to back out onto the road and had one vehicle stopped but that the motorcycle approached from the opposite direction.
Olson reportedly was wearing a helmet.
According to his obituary, Olson was the son of the late Lewis and Lena (Buchner) Olson of Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School in 1969.
For the past 30 years, Olson worked as an agent for Big Rivers Insurance along with his brother, David.
