COLFAX — The Colfax girls’ golf team competed in a pair of  18-hole meets during the final week of August and finished well in both.

The Vikings were at the Pheasant Hills Golf Course August 30  and returned home the following day to host a meet at the Whitetail Golf Course. Colfax finished second in both meets.

Pheasant Hills

The Colfax girls played in an 11-team invitational hosted by Baldwin-Woodville at Pheasant Hills Golf Course August 30. The Vikings had an impressive second-place finish as a team with an overall stroke count of 389. They were beaten by New Richmond, who counted 365 strokes.

Coach Kimberly Myers expressed surprise and pleasure at the way the girls played at Pheasant Hills.

“I’m very proud of them for that meet,” she said of her team.

Myers said that United States Golf Association rules state that when there is a tie, it should be broken using the score from the last nine holes played. DeMoe logged the lowest score, with 46 strokes on a difficult back nine holes, giving her the win.

Savanna Anderson of Stanley-Boyd took home medalist honors after shooting a 79.

Senior Hannah Yingst was the only other Viking to shoot below the century mark finishing with a 97. Morgan Schleusner tallied a 106, Megan Schleusner carded a 108 and Amanda Christianson closed out the Vikings totals with a 113.

Haley Seston led the Vikings’ junior varisty players with a score of 55 on nine holes.

Myers is looking forward to the continued improvement of the Vikings this season, and is eyeing the next round of matches starting September 7 in Prescott and continuing September 8 in Somerset.

She said of the season so far, “It’s great that everyone talks to one another, regardless of team, when they’re on the course. I always encourage my girls to tell other players ‘nice shot’ or ‘great putt.’”
