COLFAX — In its first action of the season, the Colfax Vikings volleyball team came away with at 2-1 record in its own quadrangular meet held August 23.
Three days later, Colfax competed in the annual Menomonie Volleyball Sprawl held at UW-Stout’s Sports and Fitness Center. Complete results were not available at Monday’s press time and will be listed in next week’s edition.
The Vikings kicked off the new season hosting Plum City, Baldwin-Woodville and Plum City in a quad meet last Tuesday. Colfax took down Baldwin-Woodville and Plum City before dropping their third and final match to Unity.
“They won the first set and were ahead for the second,” said Colfax head coach Pat Meredith of the Vikings’ contest against Unity. “But we had some communication issues and poor passing that let Unity back into the match.”
Colfax defeated Plum City and Baldwin-Woodville in straight sets. The Vikings managed two high-scoring sets against Plum City, coming away with 25-10 and 25-15 wins. Colfax then toppled Baldwin-Woodville, going 25-17 in the first set before letting Baldwin-Woodville back in the match during the second. The second set eventually ended in the Vikings favor at 25-23 for the sweep.
Freshman Samantha Pretasky logged 18 kills and five block kills in her first games of the season, while Kameri Meredith matched Pretasky for kills and landed seven aces.
Rachel Scharlau pulled out 11 kills in her first games as a high school player. Fellow freshman Jozie Buchanan provided 44 assists and eight aces.
Senior Bryana Buchanan thwarted 30 different attacks by opposition with a corresponding number of digs.
Colfax hosted Bloomer Tuesday night in its one and only game of the week and will be off until September 8 when it will host Somerset. Both contests are non-conference matches.
