Colfax Health and Rehab News – 8-17-2016

News for the week of August 7th to the 13th

Monday found both residents and staff well rested after a busy weekend. We want to thank all who attended our 3rd Annual Pig Roast. It couldn’t have been a more perfect summer day, and brought out many to enjoy the wonderful food and music.

According to Alli, Dietary Manager, we served over 300 meals. Saturday was also a busy day for some of our staff. We sponsored a team who participated in the Mayo Clinic Hospice annual Dragon Boat Race. Even though they did not place, all agreed it was a fun day, and we felt good knowing we helped in supporting such a great cause.

We started the week with our crafters gathering in the Square to work on a gift for our teachers when the start the new school year. We are enjoying watching the progress as the project starts to take shape. In the afternoon, we took advantage of the beautiful summer weather to have a spelling bee in the courtyard. Coupons and prizes were given out to the best spellers. Afterwards we enjoyed lemonade and cookies.

Tuesday morning our Pins and Needles sewing group got together to work on some fall table decorations. We all agreed that the summer has gone too fast, but are also looking forward to the beauty of the upcoming season. Meanwhile, the men got together to watch a video called Horse Power. It showed how horses were used to help with logging in the woods. They were used in places that tractors could not go. Some remembered watching local teams working in the woods around Colfax. The afternoon brought out many Bingo enthusiasts for an hour of their favorite game.

Our Wednesday morning church service was led by Jordan Herrick. We enjoyed the service very much, and thank him for taking the time to share with us. Also, thanks to Delores for playing the piano. The afternoon brought Trivia Time, and several residents gathered to see if they could be stumped by Cathy’s questions. All agreed, they went away a little bit smarter!

Thursday found residents gathered in the East Lounge to listen to stories that were written by one of our residents, Alice Massie. Each week, Alice picks a new story for residents to listen to, and we look forward to the next week’s story. The afternoon found Pat Sajack and Vanna White in the Square leading us in an hour of Wheel of Fortune. Well maybe Pat and Vanna didn’t come, but we still had a great time guessing the different phrases that Cathy had for us.

Our weekly rosary group gathered in the East Dining Room on Friday morning. Thank you to Loretta for leading us. After rosary, Gospel Sing a Long was held in the Square. Our faithful volunteers, Julie, Delores, Bruce and Glen always lift our spirits by leading us in our favorite hymns and prayers. We ended the week once again with another of our favorite pastimes, Dime Bingo. Everyone went away with a little more jingle in their pocket. Thanks again to Michelle and Vonnie for helping us out.

We are enjoying the sunflowers behind the building as they continue to show their beautiful blossoms (as you can see by the picture above). It is amazing to watch them as they move from east to west with the days sun. Thanks again to Don and Marsha Henderson for planting them for us to enjoy.

Until next week,
Barb Stobb, Activity Director
