News for the week of July 3rd to the 9th
The sunflowers that are planted behind the nursing home are growing fast with the help of the hot and humid weather, and all the rain we have had. We are anxiously awaiting the beauty of their blossoms.
July 4th was celebrated at the Big Yellow House with many families coming to visit, and other residents going out with family and friends to celebrate the holiday. What a beautiful day for all the family gatherings. Those that stayed at home enjoyed a special picnic lunch prepared by our dietary staff.
Tuesday morning found both residents and staff recovering from the long holiday weekend. The hot summer weather kept most of us indoors for the day. In the morning, some gathered for devotions, reading group and exercises, while others kept busy with card crafts. The afternoon found many in the Square for an hour of bingo. Later, cool drinks were served from the Happy Hour Cart.
Wednesday morning Pastor Schroetter came to lead us in our weekly church service. Thanks to pastor for taking the time to share with us, and also to Delores for playing piano for the service. The afternoon brought many out to the Square to hear one of our favorite entertainers, JC Colby. We always look forward to an hour of his wonderful music.
On Thursday morning residents gathered in the East Dining Room for our weekly volleyball tournament. We love tossing the big ball around and we get lots of exercise and we don’t even know it! While some played volleyball, others gathered for Mass. Thank you again to Father Joe and his assistant, Duane Brunner. The afternoon found many of us outside enjoying the beautiful summer weather.
Friday morning found our Catholics gathering for our weekly rosary. Thank you to Loretta for taking the time to lead us each week. Another favorite past time, Gospel Sing a Long was held in the Square. We appreciate our faithful group of volunteers who share with us each Friday morning. Later that morning, we had a visit from Skeeter the Clown announcing “the Circus is coming!” The residents enjoyed her crazy antics. We are looking forward to another visit with Skeeter at the circus on Monday, July 18th! The afternoon was spent in the Square with an hour of Dime Bingo. Before supper, we once again enjoyed beverages from the Happy Hour on the Go.
Next week will be a busy one at Colfax Health and Rehab. We will start the week with a visit from one of our favorite musicians, Honey & Me. Then on Wednesday, we will be hosting a Garden Party for the residents and families. We are already working on preparations for the event. We hope the weatherman grants us a beautiful day for this event.
Until next week,
Barb Stobb, Activity Director
