News for June 26th to July 2nd
It was a busy Monday at the Big Yellow House. We began the day by gathering in the Square to package up our famous dog treats. We ended up with 15 bags of treats, which was good as our shelf was empty!
But by the time we finished the last bag, staff and visitors had stopped and bought all but 3 bags, and before the day was done, they also sold! I guess the word is out how good they are! Looks like it’s back to the kitchen to whip up another batch!
Monday afternoon a large group of residents gathered in the Square to watch a great classic movie, The Long, Long Trailor staring Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnez. Some residents remembered seeing it years ago, others seeing it for the first time. We all knew if Lucille Ball was in it, it had to be worth watching.
Tuesday morning found residents in the Square preparing for our monthly Special Luncheon. This month the theme is “June is Dairy Month.” We created tray favors and centerpieces for the tables. Thanks ladies for all your help. Tuesday afternoon is of course Bingo in the Square and a large group of residents attended. Thanks again to Michelle, Vonnie and Eileen for helping us out.
Wednesday morning church services were led by Pastor Conklin. We thank him for taking the time to lead us in worship. After services, we busied ourselves preparing the Square for luncheon celebration. The residents were served, bacon cheeseburgers on grilled sourdough bread, cheesy potatoes and strawberry shortcake. After the meal we took a “cheese quiz”, and it was surprising how much we knew about cheese. After a short rest, it was back to the Square for an hour with one of our favorite entertainers, Magic Mary. Today, even Barb got up and sang, and surprisingly, no one left the room!
Thursday morning our weekly volleyball teams met in the East Dining Room. The competition was once again fierce, and we declared the game a tie. One thing we do know, we all got our exercise, no matter who won! Thursday afternoon the Resident Council met to discuss any issues, new ideas, and go over the July events calendar. We all agreed, the summer was going too fast as we were already half way through the year. Some of the highlights of next month include: A Garden Party for residents and families, a trip to the circus, a visit from Tiki the Macaw and T Ball games with the local children. We also are looking forward to another picnic at Irvine Park and a fishing trip to a local lake.
Friday morning we gathered in the Square for our weekly Gospel Sing. We all enjoy singing our favorite hymns and listening to the readings from Julie and Glen. We thank them again for sharing their time with us. Friday afternoon we enjoyed an hour of dime bingo. Later the Happy Hour on the Go delivered our favorite beverages to our rooms.
All of us at Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center hope you have a safe and happy Fourth of July!
Until next week,
Barb Stobb, Activity Director
