News for the week of June 19th to the 25th
After our brief overnight shower, the sunshine was welcome at the Big Yellow House. Our morning started off with our Granny Bakers gathering in the Square to whip up another batch of our famous dog treats.
This time we made a “healthy” version of beef flavored treats. The word is out, and our treats are flying off the shelf! We took advantage of the beautiful summer weather and spent the afternoon under the gazebo in the courtyard enjoying one of our favorite games, bean bag toss. The competition was heated, and the points were very close, with Marion Knutson winning by only 2 points! Afterwards we enjoyed some fresh lemonade and cookies while we reminisced about summers past.
Tuesday morning was busy here at the Big Yellow House, while Cathy led some of the residents in daily devotions, reading group and exercise, the staff busied themselves getting ready for our Lunch and Learn. Visitors from the community gathered for the event and a delicious lunch. After lunch our guest speaker, Amy Ralph, dietician spoke of the benefits of healthy eating habits and the importance of proper hydration as you age. Thank you to all who attended. You can watch for our next Lunch & Learn which will be posted on our Facebook site, or look for posters throughout the community. Tuesday afternoon brought many residents out for an afternoon of Bingo. Later in the day, our Happy Hour on the Go made its way throughout the facility. Many enjoyed a cocktail of their choice before their supper meal.
Wednesday morning we hosted a special breakfast honoring all the Dads. The menu included scrambled eggs, hash browns, country fried ham steak, and toast. We all enjoyed the meal as we remembered Father’s Days past. Later in the morning we gathered once again to celebrate our weekly church service. Thank you to Pastor Eide for taking the time to lead our service and lift our spirits. Wednesday afternoon we welcomed Pastor Bob as he shared with us his trip to the Dead Sea. Wednesday evening our parking lot was filled with the Milwaukee Brewers! Well maybe not the Brewers, but they sure played like they were! Our local T ball team entertained us with some of their ball playing skills. Thanks to the players, coaches and families for sharing with us.
Excitement filled the air on Thursday morning. Residents readied themselves for a trip to the Colfax Fair. We loaded up the van and headed off to see the displays, animals and enjoy some of our favorite fair food. After all of us returned to the facility we rested up and then headed to the Square for an afternoon of great music provided by Chuck Kirkwood and Friends.
Friday we all gathered for a special hour of gospel music and word provided by our wonderful volunteers, Julie, Delores, Glen and Bruce. It wouldn’t be a Friday morning without them. After gospel sing, we once again gathered up more residents to again take in the fair. Thank you to Linda & Paul Cook for sharing their gazebo for some of our residents to sit under. They were able to stay cool, and still take in the excitement of the fair. Dime Bingo was the order for the afternoon, and Happy Hour on the Go offered our favorite beverages before our supper meal.
Next week we look forward to more outdoor walks while taking in our fresh fruit stand, music by some of our favorite entertainers, Magic Mary, and Riverboat Randy. On Wednesday, we will be having a special June is Dairy Month Lunch. We will be serving Bacon Cheeseburgers on Grilled Sourdough Bread, Cheesy Potatoes and for dessert, freshly picked strawberries atop a fresh baked biscuit, with of course whipped cream for topping.
Until next week, enjoy your summer!
