EM finishes track season with five events at State

LACROSSE – A few members from the Elk Mound track team were in action over this last weekend in LaCrosse at the University of LaCrosse for the State Track Meet. The meet was held from Friday, June 3 to Saturday, June 4.
The Mounders sent five events to compete over the weekend and faced some really tough competition when they arrived. The only girl to make it was junior Elizabeth Fasbender in the 3200-meter run.
Fasbender faced her toughest competitors all season and finished in sixteenth place on the afternoon with a time of 12:22.18. Fasbender will look to build on her season next year and see if she can get back to State for her senior year.
The Mounders were able to send two relay teams to State, but both teams were unable to make it into the finals. The 4×100 and 4×200-meter relay teams represented Elk Mound. The team consisted of Preston Eppers, Noah Zurbuchen, Jordan VanSchoonhoven, and Tyler Sahm. The team took fifteenth in the prelims with a time of 44.61 and were unable to qualify for the finals.
The 4×200-meter relay team had a lot of the same faces and were looking to move on to the finals in this event. The team was made up of Noah Zurbuchen, Jordan VanSchoonhoven, Tyler Sahm, and Ben Mack. This team also took fifteenth place in the prelims and were unable to compete in the finals. They finished with a time of 1:32.50.
The Mounders had two other events they were competing in and they were the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash. Sophomore Jake Johnson was in the 110-meter hurdles and had a race to forget at State. Johnson tripped over a hurdle and was later disqualified and was unable to move on to the finals. Johnson will have two more years to come back to State and redeem himself.
Noah Zurbuchen participated in the 100-meter dash. This was Zurbuchen’s third event he participated in at State. Noah finished eleventh in the prelims and was unable to move on to the finals in this event either. He finished with a time of 11.86 and missed a spot in the finals by .01.
Elk Mound had a really good track season to send five events to the State Track Meet and will be looking forward to next year to see if they can send more to LaCrosse.
