Colfax track competes well in Regional meet

BOYCEVILLE — The Colfax track and field teams performed well in the WIAA Division 3 Regional meet held Monday, May 23 at Boyceville. Dodging scattered rain drops, the Viking girls finished third in the nine-team meet while the boys squad took fifth.
Eau Claire Regis took home the top spot in the girl’s competition with 141 points with host Boyceville copping second with 95 points. Chippewa Falls McDonell Central won the boys title with 111 points, a mere eight points ahead of runner-up Fall Creek and nine better than third-place Eau Claire Regis.
Girls
The Colfax girls finished the regional competition in third place with a total of 87 points. The team won four events, two on the track and two in field events.
All of the girls listed below qualified and participated in the sectional meet hosted by Colfax Thursday, May 26. The top four place finishers in each event advanced to the sectional meet.
Senior Dempsey Fogarty was part of two of those first place finishes, with one as a relay team member and the other on her own. Fogarty anchored the winning 4×800-meter relay team that finished with a top time of 10:24.47. Other team members included: junior Abbagail Schotter, senior Courtney Dressel and freshman Erica Kallstrom. Fogarty also finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.75. Fogarty also participated in the 200-meter dash and in the long jump and finished third in both events. She ran the 200 in a time of :27.70 and 16’ 7” in the long jump.
Senior Marianne Scharlau earned a pair of regional golds as she reigned supreme in both the discus and shot put. Scharlau threw a distance of 102’ 8” to win the discus and 35’1.75” in the shot put to claim first place.
Scharlau’s freshman teammate, Emma Hurlburt, finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 27’ 2.25”.
Erica Kallstrom cruised to a second-place finish in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:26.24. This was the only second place finish by the Lady Vikings in the regional meet. Sophomore Mackenzie Jensen finished fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:18.88.
Two other relay teams helped out the team by taking fourth – the 4×200 and the 4×400. Making up the team of the 4×200 was junior Megan Schleusner, freshman Rachel Knutson, freshman Hailey Prince and Emma Hurlburt. The team finished with a time of 2:05.33. The 4×400-meter relay team had a few of the same faces on the team. They also took fourth with a time of 4:30.66. The team included: Megan Schleusner, Hailey Prince, Emma Hurlburt and Abbagail Schotter.
Boys
The boys finished fifth overall in the meet with 73 points behind a pair of first-place finishes both from relay teams.
The 4×200-meter relay team took home first place with a winning time of 1:38.90. This team was made up of sophomore Adam Pretasky, senior Tucker Hovde, senior Kedar Davis and senior Jacob Steinke.
The 4×100-meter relay team also finished first with a lot of the same. This team consisted of Adam Pretasky, Jacob Steinke, Kedar Davis, and junior Aliymu Davis. They finished with a time of :46.35.
The Vikings finished the 100-meter dash with three runners qualifying for points. Aliymu Davis took third with a time of :12.04 and a sectional berth, Adam Pretasky finished seventh with a time of :12.35 and freshman Jeremy Artist finished eighth with a time of :12.48.
The 200-meter dash also saw three more Vikings finish in the points. Jacob Steinke took fifth with a time of :24.05, junior Napoleon Nosker finished sixth with a time of :25.31 and junior Michael Lyrek took seventh with a time of :25.40.
Tucker Hovde cruised his way to a second-place finish in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:51.39 and advanced to the sectional meet.
Colfax competed well in the field events as it had five boys take home points.
Senior Hunter Lieffort finished fourth in the pole vault clearing a height of 9’. Aliymu Davis took fourth in both the long jump and triple jump. Davis flew a distance of 19’ 6.25” in the long jump and a distance of 38-’ 8” in the triple jump. Senior teammate Issac Lee took home second place in the triple jump with a distance of 40’ 7”. All four moved on to the sectional in the listed events.
Sophomore Spencer Herrick finished sixth in the shot put to help his team with a couple points as he threw for a distance of 38’ 11.75”.
