Colfax sends Seston and Guillickson to Sectionals

by Samuel Ripp

CADOTT — The Colfax golf team was in action on Wednesday, May 25 at Whispering Pines in Cadott for the WIAA Division 3 Regional Golf Meet.

Colfax finished fifth out of ten teams, but had a pair of competitors move on to sectionals which were held yesterday (May 31) at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon. Cadott, who hosted the regional meet, won it with a total of 326 strokes.
Colfax finished in fifth, just one spot away from taking the whole team to sectionals. They had a team score of 381 and sitting at fourth was Osseo-Fairchild with a 360. The Viking were able to send two seniors on to the next round to get them one step closer to state.

Senior Trevor Seston led the Vikings on the day with an 88 and qualified for sectionals. Seston has led Colfax all season long and continued at Regionals. Seston was also the only one on the team that scored in the 80’s.
Trey Guillickson also qualified to sectionals to keep his final season going. Guillickson shot a 92 on the afternoon. Guillickson and Seston will proudly represent the Vikings at the sectional golf meet.

Senior Brett Prince just missed the cut to continue his senior season as he shot a 94 and just a few shots behind his teammate Guillickson. Fellow senior Andy Buckley did not have the same success as the other Vikings as he shot a 107 in his final golf match.

Also at the meet, but his points did not count towards the team’s score, was freshman Dennan Fogarty. Fogarty struggled on the course shooting a 151, but will have plenty of more years to keep improving.

Head Coach Vince Ross is happy to have two of his golfer to continue on to the sectional meet.

“It was exciting that we had individuals moving on,” stated Ross after the meet.

With the season continuing for a few kids is exciting, but the season is also over for a few senior that will be hard to replace.

“It is going to be difficult to replace the leadership and character of this group of seniors from this year’s team,” said Ross about the leadership on the team.
