Mounders’ track competes in D-SC/Lakeland Conference Challenge

BOYCEVILLE — The Elk Mound track teams were in Boyceville Thursday, May 12 to participate in the annual Dunn-St. Croix/Lakeland Conference Challenge.

The Mounder boys place third overal while the  Lady Mounders took last out of eight teams.

Cornell/Lake Holcombe took first for the girls with 174.50 points and Unity topped the boys race with 179 points.

Girls

The girls took eighth on the afternoon with 35 points. They finished with a lone first place finish in the field events. It came from senior Taylor Deling in the shot put, Deling threw a distance of 30’ 9”.

The Lady Mounders also found points in the high jump and discus in the field events. Freshman Brynn McVey took fourth in the high jump, clearing a height of 4’ 4”. Junior Kassandra Jain finished sixth in the discus throwing for a distance of 84’ 8”.

Elk Mound had two relay teams bring home points for the team. The 4 x 800 meter relay team took fifth in 12:25.96. The team was made up of junior Meredith Hainstock, freshman Ciera Lind, sophomore Claudia Paul, and sophomore Kayla Patterson.

The 4 x 200 meter relay team finished seventh in their event and the team consisted of junior Gracie Peterson, junior Jenna Storing, freshman Abby Kasper, and freshman anchor, Brynn McVey. The team’s time was 2:10.25.

Scoring the remaining points for the Lady Mounders were sophomore Claudia Paul in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10.58; Meredith Hainstock was eighth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.17; and Ciera Lind placed sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:53.25.

Boys

The boys team finished third out of eight teams in the meet with 82.50 points. The boys only had one first place finish on the afternoon, but a lot of others helped the team.

The only first place finish came from the 4 x 200 meter relay team that was made up of senior Preston Eppers, senior Ben Mack, senior Chase Morris, and senior Teegan Peterson. This team finished with a winning time of 1:38.09.

The 4 x 100 meter relay team came in second on the afternoon with a time of 46.61. This team consisted of Preston Eppers, Ben Mack, Chase Morris, and junior George Friberg.

The last relay team that brought home points was the 4 x 800 meter relay team. This team was built with senior Hayden Kohls, sophomore Aric Jenson, junior Matt McLaughlin, and sophomore Nate Lind. They finished fourth with a time of 10:00.18.

Teegan Peterson was busy on the afternoon in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles and took fourth in both events. Peterson finished the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.78 and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.54.

The rest of the Mounders’ points were earned in field events. Elk Mound placed in the high jump, pole vault, triple jump, discus, and shot put.

Sophomore Tyler Brantner finished tied for fifth in the high jump, clearing a height of 5’ 6” and took fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 36’ 4.25”.

The Mounders then took second and fourth in the pole vault as junior Chandler Schreiber vaulted 12’ 3” for second and George Friberg came in fourth after clearing 10’ 6”.

Senior Aaron Maves and sophomore Connor Mavis finished a couple spots apart in the discus and in the shot put to help the team. Maves finished second in the discus throwing 131’ 4” and Mavis was fourth with a distance of 114’ 8”. The two boys were separated by two spots in the shot put as well. Maves took fifth in the event while throwing for 39’ 2.75”. Mavis was a few feet behind in seventh throwing a distance of 37’ 5”. Sophomore teammate Bryce Kasper finished right behind Mavis in eighth with a distance of 36’ 7”.
