DURAND — The Colfax and Elk Mound golf teams wrapped up the regular season Monday, May 9 at Rolling Greens Golf Course in Durand.
Elk Mound climbed out of the Dunn-St. Croix cellar for the first time this season as it finished fifth out of six teams.
Colfax took last at the conference’s final regular season meet. Mondovi took first overall on the day with 174 strokes.
The Vikings also competed at Spring Valley Saturday, May 14.
Colfax and Elk Mound played host for the conference’s annual 18-hole tournament yesterday (Tuesday, May 17).
The two teams will compete in different divisions for the WIAA tournaments. The Mounders will head to Black River Falls for the Division 2 Regionals on Tuesday, May 24 while the Vikings will compete in the Division 3 Caddott Regional that same day.
Elk Mound
The Mounders finished fifth overall on the day and totaled 198 shots to keep them just under 200.
Leading the way for Elk Mound was junior Jameson Rubenzer with a 45 on the afternoon. Rubenzer was the only Mounder who shot under 50 on the day. It was freshman Maxwell Marquardt that shot behind Rubenzer, tallying an even 50 to help his team out.
The two other varsity golfers that scored high enough to count for some of the scoring were sophomore Nathaniel Schreiber with a 51 and senior Colin Svee with a 52. The other varsity player on the day for Elk Mound was freshman Dillon McLaughlin who finished with a 57.
Colfax
The Colfax golf team finished last on the day with a total of 208 strokes in Durand. The Vikings were one golfer short for varsity, but they took the top four scores on the afternoon.
Leading the way again for the Vikings was senior Trevor Seston with a 45 and just a few strokes behind Seston was fellow senior teammate Trey Guillickson with a 47. Seston and Guillickson were the only Vikings scoring in the 40s on the day.
Rounding out the other two varsity participants were senior Andy Buckley and sophomore Richard Stehling who both shot a 58 on the course.
Head Coach Vince Ross was not surprised at some of the high meet scores due to the greens.
“We had a difficult time with the quick greens along with most of the golfers in the conference,” stated Ross after the meet.
