Colfax track finishes fourth at Glenwood City

GLENWOOD CITY – The Colfax track team was on the road in Glenwood City on Thursday, May 12 and both the girls and boys finished fourth out of five teams on the night. It was Ellsworth coming in and sweeping the meet with the girls scoring 106 points and the boys scoring 138 points.

Girls

The Colfax girls took fourth in the meet on Thursday finishing with a total of 52 points on the day. The Lady Vikings tallied four first place finishes to help them secure their fourth place finish.

They were lead by senior Dempsey Fogarty as she brought home first place in the 400 and 200-meter dash. She cruised to a first place finish in the 400 with a time of 1:01.14 and in the 200, she tallied a 27.29 time.

The 4×800-meter relay team also took home a first place finish with a winning time of 10:14.15 on the day. The 4×400-meter relay team took home a third place finish with a time of 4:40.66.

In the field events, senior Marianne Scharlau finished in the top three in the discus and shot put. Scharlau took home the top spot in the discus with a distance of 113-09 and third in the shot put tallying a distance of 35-03.00.

Senior Courtney Dressel found herself in a second place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.80. In the other long distance race, sophomore Mackenzie Jensen and junior Jezz Tweed took fourth and fifth in the 1600-meter run. Jensen finished with a time of 6:25.13 and Tweed was a little behind with a time of 6:51.37.

In the quick 100-meter dash, junior Bryana Buchanan brought home fourth place with a time of 14.25. Buchanan also finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.86 and a few spots behind teammate Dempsey Fogarty.

Boys

The Colfax boys also finished fourth on the afternoon and collecting 48 points. The boys only had one first place finish during the meet and a couple second place finishes to help score some points.

The Vikings were lead by senior Tucker Hovde in the 3200-meter run taking home first place with a time of 11:00.01 which was over a minute faster than second place.

In the 100-meter dash, the Vikings took second and third with junior Aliymu Davis and Kedar Davis. Aliymu finished with a time of 12.11 and Kedar finished with a time of 12.28.

Colfax finished fourth in two relay races they participated in. They 4×200-meter relay team finished with a time of 1:39.40 and the 4×100-meter relay team finished with a time of 49.64.

The boys also took home two of the top five spots in the 300-meter hurdles. Junior Jacob Larson finished second with a time of 46.54 and freshman Luke Heidorn finished a few seconds behind Larson for fifth with a time of 49.08.

Senior Jacob Steinke helped out his team by taking third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.52. The Vikings also faired well in the field events were they picked up some points in the long jump, triple jump and shot put.

Aliymu Davis finished third in the long jump with a distance of 17-11.75 and took home second in the triple jump with a distance of 40-05.50. Senior teammate Issac Lee was right behind Davis in the triple jump taking third with a distance of 40-02.00.

Colfax finished their scoring in the shot put with a fifth place finish from sophomore Spencer Herrick throwing a distance of 38-02.00.

The track team will be back in action on Tuesday, May 17 at Glenwood City once again for a conference tournament.
