COLFAX — The Colfax baseball team was home on Monday, May 9 against conference opponent Mondovi and a late rally fell short in a 6-4 loss.
Mondovi would strike first in the game in the second inning by scoring one run, but Colfax would answer back in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own with sophomore Mitch Kiekhafer coming home to score. Mondovi would regain the lead very quickly just a half of inning later by adding one more. After adding one in the third, they would add one in the fourth as well to go up two in the game. The Buffaloes would pull away in the fifth inning by scoring three more and go up 6-1 after five innings. The Vikings would fight back in the bottom of the seventh inning by scoring three, but could not push anymore across and come up two runs short to force extras.
On the mound for Colfax was senior Jarrod Rudi who went the full seven innings on the afternoon. Rudi allowed six runs with only one being earned on six hits and also added seven strikeouts. Rudi issued two walks and a hit batter along with a wild pitch in seven innings.
The Vikings tallied eight hits during the game that led to four runs. Collecting the hits for Colfax were: Brady Simonson with two, Rudi with two, sophomore Brett Schindler, Kiekhafer, sophomore Nate Polden, and senior Tyler Dawson.
Colfax put up a good fight, but just ran out of gas before they could tie it up. The Vikings only have six remaining games left in the regular season and will play again on Thursday, May 12 at home against Pepin/Alma. There is still plenty of time for Colfax to find their second win of the season.
