Lady Mounders sweep rival Durand

ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound softball team was in action on Monday, May 9 to take on rival Durand and Elk Mound came out on top by a score of 4-3. The Lady Mounders took both games of the season against Durand to stay perfect in conference at 9-0.
Elk Mound did not get off to their hot start as they have done so many times in the past. It was Durand who took the early lead in the fourth inning by scoring one. They would add to that lead in the sixth by adding one more. The Lady Panthers’ two run lead did not last forever though, as Elk Mound scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the sixth to give the Lady Mounders a two run lead. Durand would make one final push to tie the game in the seventh, but could only push one across the plate and come up one run short.
On the mound for Elk Mound was senior Abbey Olsen who threw a complete game for the win. Olsen allowed three runs, with only two of them earned on four hits. She struck out eight Panthers while only issuing one walk.
The Lady Mounders bats were held in check for most of the game as they only collected six hits on the afternoon. Elk Mound did not draw any walks during the game. Collecting the six hits were: junior Elizabeth Bauer, sophomore Madysen Borofka, junior Karie Jo Nigon with a triple, Olsen with two, and junior Emily Ausman.
Out of the four runs in the game, two girls added to their RBI totals on the year. Karie Jo Nigon tallied three RBIs and Emily Ausman picked up the other one.
The Lady Mounders have now won six in a row and will look to keep their streak going as they take on Independence/Gilmanton on Tuesday, May 10 at home. Elk Mound only has six games left till the end of the regular season.
