ELK MOUND — The Elk Mound baseball team played conference leading Durand at home on Monday, May 9 and came out on top with a 3-2 walk off victory. The two teams split the two season series and now Elk Mound only trails Durand by one game for the conference lead.
On the mound for Elk Mound was senior ace Brandon Bohl and he pitched very well after getting shaken up in the first. Bohl only allowed two runs on three hits. He struck out fifteen Panthers on the afternoon.
Bohl was cruising through the first inning striking out the first two batters until he hit the third batter, then had trouble getting the Panthers out. He allowed a double that scored one and the next batter singled to drive in another run for an early 2 run lead for Durand. The lead did not last long as the Mounders got to Durand in the bottom of the second with two of their own thanks to RBIs from senior Ryan Conlin on a single and senior Grant Kjellberg with a single. After the first two innings, it was scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning. It was junior Trey Mohr leading off the inning with a single and then stole second on a controversial call at second. He was called safe and then junior Hunter Adleman drew a walk and so did senior Cole Tyman to load the bases with nobody out. It was Durand pitcher Hunter Black, that was rattled after the safe call at second and on the first pitch with the bases loaded he had a wild pitch that would score Mohr for the game winning run on a walk off wild pitch.
The Mounders tallied 7 hits on the afternoon and collecting hits included: Mohr, Tyman, senior Alex Hollister with two, Conlin with two, and Grant Kjellberg.
Elk Mound will only have five games left before the regular season is over and they will need some help to grab that conference title from Durand.
