Elk Mound struggles at Mondovi without full team

MONDOVI — The Elk Mound track team was in action on Tuesday, May 10 in Mondovi without their full team though. The other part of their team as in Colfax participating in another meet. The girls finished tenth at the meet and the boys finished tied for ninth. Menomonie won the girls and guys side with 218 and 169.5 points.

Girls

The Lady Mounders struggled with their young athletes in Mondovi finishing in last with only 19 points. Elk Mound only finished in five events to qualify for points.

Four of those events were relay teams. The 4×800 took sixth on the afternoon with a time of 12:35.93. Making up that relay team was junior Meredith Hainstock, freshman Ciera Lind, sophomore Claudia Paul, and junior Jenna Storing.

The 4×200 meter relay team finished seventh during the event and ended up with a time of 2:18.28. The relay team participants were freshman Hannah Caron, sophomore Kyla Egan, freshman Hannah Simpson, and freshman Amanda Sahm.

The Lady Mounders also took seventh in the short 4×100-meter relay with freshman Abby Kasper, freshman Sydney Simpson, junior Jenna Storing, and freshman Amanda Sahm. These girls finished with a time of 1:06.22.

The last relay team that helped the team earn some points was the 4×400-meter team that took fifth on the day. Freshman Hanna Hollister, freshman Ciera Lind, sophomore Claudia Paul and in the anchor spot, junior Jenna Storing. They finished with a time of 5:24.07.

The lone girl that earned points on her own for the team was junior Mikayla Solberg in the discus. Solberg threw a distance of 108-09.

Boys

The Elk Mound boys finished tied four ninth place during the meet while only scoring 16 total points. The boys placed in seven events to help them to their 16 points on the day. Four of those events were relay races.

The 4×800-meter relay team was made up of sophomore Andrew Benson, sophomore Aric Jenson, freshman Dylan Hanson, and junior Matt McLaughlin and finished sixth with a time of 10:47.36.

The 4×200-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 1:41.96. The team was made up of freshman Mason Close, sophomore William Muszinski, senior Teegan Peterson, and senior Chase Morris.

In the short 4×100-meter relay, Elk Mound finished sixth with a time of 48.65. The team was made up of freshman Rian Flynn, senior Preston Eppers, William Muszinski, and Chase Morris.

The last relay team to help the Mounders score some points was the 4×400-meter team made up of Andrew Benson, Aric Jenson, Chase Morris, and Teegan Peterson. This team finished with a time of 4:10.52.

Preston Eppers also finished eighth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.49 to collect one point for the team. Teegan Peterson cleared a height of 10-00.00 in the pole vault to claim sixth place for himself. Sophomore Bryce Kasper finished eight in the shot put, throwing a distance of 37-08.00.

Elk Mound will be looking to improve on their performance at Mondovi and give their younger athletes more experience for recent meets and in the future.
