Colfax High School Names Top 10 of 2016

COLFAX  —  Here are the responses to questionnaires distributed by the Colfax Messenger to the top ten graduates of the Colfax High School Class of 2016. The students are listed in the order of their class ranking.

Trey Gullickson 

Trey is the son of Roger and Cindy Gullickson.

• List your favorite high school classes.

My favorite classes have been chemistry, physics and advanced biology because they are hands-on and fun to learn.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

My most memorable event was when when Mr. Furey, our chemistry teacher, accidentally spilled methanol on his hands and caught on fire. He was perfectly fine and I will never forget that because of how sudden it was.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

National Honor Society, Science Olympiad, Golf, Football.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to go to UW-Superior and major in Chemistry while fulfilling the prerequisites for dental school.

Courtney Dressel

Courtney is the daughter of Riebe and Jennifer Dressel.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Calculus — I’ve always enjoyed math classes and calculus is challenging.

Science classes — Classes are interesting and every day is different.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

My most memorable event was going to state in cross country my senior year. Our team placed higher than any other Colfax girls’ cross country team (3rd) and it felt great to be a part of school history.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

Track, Cross Country, Basketball, Powerlifting, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Science Olympiad, Science Club, National Honor Society (NHS), mentoring program.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I am majoring in Biology at the University of Minnesota – Duluth and I plan on working over the summer.

Andrea Brantner

Andrea is the daughter of Gary and Dena Brantner.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Accounting, Advanced Biology and Pre-Calc have been my favorite classes. Each class has been a lot of fun, but also challenging. The teachers have all been very supportive and I am grateful to have learned a lot!

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

For the last two years I have had the opportunity to attend FBLA state. There may have been a few hiccups along the way but looking back, they were what made the trip so much fun! Being able to attend state this year with my sister was a great experience and I am thankful for it.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

Throughout school I have participated in: basketball, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society and student council. During my junior year, I was fortunate to be involved in the Discovering Leadership Program.

• What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation I plan to attend the University of Eau Claire where I will major in Business Administration.

Jarrod Rudi

Jarrod is the son of Carl and Polly Rudi.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Science Classes — I have always loved science and plan on going into a science career.

Math Classes — I like the challenge that these classes bring.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

My sophomore year of football against Spring Valley we had to march about 60 yards in less than 20 seconds. As a first year varsity quarterback, I threw two completed passes including the winning touchdown pass, which was the start of the Vikings first playoff berth in years.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

Varsity Football, basketball and baseball, NHS, FBLA, Science Club, Letter Club.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I am going to North Dakota State University with plans of either studying pharmacy or pre-med for radiology.

Lakken Meredith

Lakken is the daughter of Richard and Pamela Meredith.

• List your favorite high school classes.

College Prep English — I am able to put my ideas down on paper.

Advanced Biology — I was interested in learning about the human body.

Physics — I enjoyed learning why things around us happen.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

Winning conference in volleyball junior year. We were playing Elk Mound and had already lost two sets. In the third set we were down 3-11 and came back to win the next three sets. Being able to win that game with a team that was like family is unforgettable.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

Student Council, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Science Club, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Volleyball, Softball, Basketball.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I am planning to attend Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. While there, I will be majoring in Athletic Training/Physical Therapy and playing volleyball.

Marianne Scharlau

Marianne is the daughter of John and Christina Scharlau.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Advanced Biology and Medical Terminology — Both classes have challenged me and prepared me for my future in nursing.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

My favorite high school memory is when our volleyball team was regional champions my junior year. It was the first time since 1997 that we had won our regional and it felt great to be a part of that.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

Volleyball, Track & Field, Club Volleyball, Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council, Science Club, National Honor Society, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Science Olympiad, mentoring program.

• What are your plans after graduation?

Attending the University of Jamestown, North Dakota. I also will be playing volleyball at Jamestown. Majoring in Nursing.

Chyann Erickson

Chyann is the daughter of Cal and Kellie Erickson.

• List your favorite high school classes.

A couple of my favorite classes in high school have been college prep English and advanced biology. College prep English was one of my favorite classes because we did so many fun projects and because Mrs. Myers gave me countless opportunities to read with the many book reviews she had us do throughout the year. Advanced biology was another of my favorite classes because of the memorable projects we had to do like reconstructing a skeleton and collecting macro-invertebrates from the 18 Mile Creek.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

One of the most memorable events I have been involved in while in high school was the Color Run that took place last fall. Student council members were recruited to throw the color on all of the participants in the run and it was so much fun!

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

I have been involved in the following activities throughout high school: student council, National Honor Society, concert band, marching band, jazz band, letter club, youth options at UW-Stout.

• What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I will be attending St. Cloud State University starting in the fall semester of 2016 with a major in English.

Serena Secraw

Serena is the daughter of Kenneth Secraw and Sharon Secraw.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Advanced Biology — Mr. Mosey always made learning fun and exciting.

College Prep English — It has prepared me for college.

Medical Terminology — I enjoy studying all the medical terms.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

My most memorable event would be winning conference in volleyball my senior year. This event means so much because no one thought we could do it, but with hard work we achieved our goal. It was an unforgettable moment with my team and coaches, and I will cherish it forever.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

NHS, FCCLA, FBLA, Letter Club, volleyball, basketball, track, softball.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I plan on working this summer and attending St. Cloud State University this fall. I intend to major in Communication Sciences and Disorders and pursue a career in Speech Pathology.

Dempsey Fogarty

Dempsey is the daughter of Chris and Tania Fogarty.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Calculus and Algebra 3 because they both challenged me and intrigued me.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

Growing up I was in the stands at the state track and field meet. My freshman year, I made it to the meet on my own and was able to look up at the stands instead. I will never forget how good it felt to be watched instead of watching someone else do well.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

National Honor Society, Cross Country, Basketball, Track and Field, Future Business Leaders of America, FCCLA.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I will be attending University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse and will be majoring in psychology.

Hunter Lieffort

Hunter is the son of Dave and Carol Lieffort.

• List your favorite high school classes.

All Science Classes because I enjoy learning about the outdoors. Woods Class because I enjoy building things.

•Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

Going to cross country state as a freshman being part of an amazing team. Clearing 12 feet in pole vault because it was a personal accomplishment.

• List the activities in which you were involved during high school.

Cross Country, Track and Field, powerlifting, Trap shooting, science club, FFA, Student Council.

• What are your plans after graduation?

Work for Jim Herrick Construction this summer then attend Chippewa Valley Technical College for general classes and then transfer to UW-Stout for Construction Management.
