16 honor students at Glenwood City High School

GLENWOOD CITY — The Glenwood City High School class of 2016 has 16 honor students. The three co-valedictorians – Maya Petersen, Gabby Peterson and Macie Rasmussen – and salutatorian Morgan Kadinger are featured in a seperate story of our graduation section. Below are the 12 other honor students.

Wesley Franklin

Wesley is the son of Brenda and Chris Franklin.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Participating in all of the FFA trips, activities and competitions; participating in track and having fun with my teammates.

• List your favorite high school classes. Chemistry and Physics with Dr. Ketola – really fun classes where I learned a lot too; Ag Classes with VanderWaal; All of my AP History Classes – I learned a lot and had fun in my favorite subject; World War II Class with Jim and Andrew.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? FFA – 4 years; History Club – 2014-2016 (junior and senior year); Track – 2014-2016 (junior and senior year); NHS – 2013-2016 (sophomore-senior); 4-H (4 years); Glenwood Area Historical Society (4 years).

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan on attending UW-River Falls in the fall to major in History.

Marne Lewis

Marne is the daughter of Dana Hudson and Scott Lewis.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Dominating in powder puff every year, prom, being a part of the musicals, and girls night once a week with Sierra and Kaylie.

• List your favorite high school classes. Drawing and design, choir and band – I love drawing singing, and playing my bass clarinet; Fashion design – I’m extremely good at sewing; All my foods classes – I love cooking and made a lot of funny memories while in them.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Volleyball and Cheerleading – all four years. Art Club and Yearbook – all four years. Student Council – freshmen year. Tech Ed Club – freshmen and senior years. FCCLA – junior and senior years. Two musicals. Honors Band five times.

• What are your plans after graduation? Attending Minnesota State University of Moorhead with an undecided major, but I’m thinking about Graphic Design or something in Criminal Justice.

Liam Brandt

Liam is the son of Joel and Diane Brandt.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. The burning of the calculator in Chemistry. Human Anatomy feasts.

• List your favorite high school classes. 1. Human Anatomy – it was a fun environment where students could relax but still learn a lot. 2. Chemistry – The burning of the calculator, and pencils.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Band/Choir – freshman-junior; DECA – freshman; History Club – junior-senior.

• What are your plans after graduation? I will be attending the University of WI Stout, majoring in Biochemistry and hopefully later pharmaceutical toxicology.

Carlee Strong

Carlee is the daughter of Shane and Hilary Strong.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Being Regional Champs in softball in 2015, and all the fun times with my teammates.

• List your favorite high school classes. Spanish – we learn a lot and it’s cool to be able to speak another language; Personal Finance – I enjoy classes with Mrs. Hentz and it was a class that will help me in adult life.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Volleyball – all four years; Basketball – all four years; Softball – all four years; DECA – 2015-16 (senior year; NHS – sophomore-senior.

• What are your plans after graduation? I will be attending UW-La Crosse next fall in pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.

Taylor Brittain

Taylor is the daughter of Jason Brittain and Tina Anderson.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Prom 2016 and 2015, Homecoming and Powder Puff, Soup Saturday with my crew.

• List your favorite high school classes. Human Anatomy with Mrs. Ohman because it was a fun, challenging class. I also enjoyed all the business classes because that’s what I’m interested in doing when I graduate.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Varsity softball – 4 years; Basketball – 4 years; NHS – 3 years; DECA – 1 year.

• What are your plans after graduation? Going to UW-Eau Claire for marketing and possibly management.

Jack Kremer

Jack is the son of Dave Kremer and Tricia Kremer.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Being a part of the GC cross country team will be in my memories forever. I’ve never been a part of such a great group of people.

• List your favorite high school classes. Physics, Entrepreneurship, Spanish and CSI will go down as some of my favorite classes in high school. Mr. Ketola is such a great teacher and a fun person to be around, it made Physics fun. Entrepreneurship allowed me the chance to flex my business mindset and I learned a lot in Spanish/CSI.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Cross Country (freshman-senior); Track (sophomore-senior); NHS (sophomore-senior).

• What are your plans after graduation? My plans for after graduation include attending UW-Eau Claire, attain a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. I’m keeping an open mind for college so I can experience different things to find the path that is right for me.

Ellen Lindquist

Ellen is the daughter of David and Linda Lindquist.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Back to the 80’s spring musical 2016.

• List your favorite high school classes. Chemistry: The teacher was very funny and made learning fun, rather than a bore. Human Anatomy: The class was hard, but engaging. Mrs. Ohman made sure we learned everything so well that even now, I remember my notes from last year.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Band, Marching Band, Pep Band, Honors Band, Solo Ensemble, Choir, Student Council, Art Club (I did all of these 2012-2016), softball (2012-2014), Track (2015), NHS (2014-2016), Spring Musical (2014, 2016), Show Choir (2012-2014).

• What are your plans after graduation? I have a summer job as a cashier at Nilssen’s. This fall, I will be attending Michigan Technological University for Biomedical Engineering.

Kathryn Vang

Kathryn is the daughter of Kay Lee.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Seeing growth in each individual; Getting the chance to experience my growth with amazing and authentic people; after school events; hearing about prom; going to prom; staying at school until 6:00 in the morning; road trips; figuring myself out with my friends; opening to different ideas and people I normally wouldn’t try to introduce myself to.

• List your favorite high school classes. Biology: Found my calling in genetics here. Also Mrs. Ohman is amazing at teaching. Studio Art: My last crafty art class that allowed me to see art in the way I wanted. Expanding the will of creativity never felt so good. Chemistry: I learned a lot about how strange and cool Mr. Ketola is. You can’t unhear what’s been told in his classroom *cough* They must have been doing jumping jacks or something.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Art Club – senior; History Club Banner; School News: Book Cover; Facepainting for Parent Fun Night; Solo & Ensemble; Glenwood City Art Show; Worked on backdrop for 80’s play; Homecoming/Prom/Post Prom.

• What are your plans after graduation? I’m planning to continue my study to get a doctoral in genetic research and engineering. Double majoring with Communication and also hope to travel the world to find a cure/figure a way to reverse cancer. Don’t know where I’m going yet.

Dakota Phalin

Dakota is the daughter of Robert and Carole Phalin.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Participating in this year’s musical “Back to the 80’s” was one of the more memorable events during my high school years. I had tons of fun singing and dancing with my friends while wearing funky 80’s costumes was a blast.

• List your favorite high school classes. 1. Mr. Popko’s Junior English Class; he could always find a way to make class interesting. 2. Mrs. Anderson’s Human Anatomy Class – It’s a subject that I really enjoy. It didn’t hurt that there were only seven people in the class.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? National Honors Society (2015-16); Cheerleading (2012-15); Band and Choir (2012-16) (Pep Band, Marching Band, All Conference Honors Band); Class Officer (2012-16).

• What are your plans after graduation? I plan on going to UW-Eau Claire for nursing.

Nathan Hill

Nathan is the son of Jeff Hill and Melanie Hill.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. State football, male dancing senior year.

• List your favorite high school classes. Chemistry and Physics – Mr. Ketola is a cool guy.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? Football – 2012; Cross Country – 2014-2015; Basketball – 2012-2016; Golf – 2012-2016; NHS – 2014-2016.

• What are your plans after graduation? Attending UW-Eau Claire to major in engineering.

Nicholas Schone

Nicholas is the son of Tracey Schone and Chris and Deanna Schone.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. When I look back on my high school career, two events stick out the most to me. Returning home my freshman year with a state championship and becoming an international top 10 finisher in my last DECA competition are my greatest memories.

• List your favorite high school classes. Personal Finance, Accounting I and II, and Human Anatomy were my favorite classes. Personal Finance and Accounting allowed me to learn more about the world of business, and Human Anatomy challenged me while still having a good time.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? National Honors Society – 3 years; DECA – 4 years; Student Council – 4 years; School Newspaper – 2 years; All-school musical – 2 years; Football – 4 years; Basketball – 4 years; Baseball – 4 years; Track – 2 years; Golf – 1 year; GC UMC – 4 years.

• What are your plans after graduation? This summer I will be working at my parents’ store and restaurant and in the fall will be attending UW-Eau Claire as part of the Honors Program majoring in Business Administration with a minor in Spanish.

Andrew Bauman

Andrew is the son of April and Brent Bauman.

• List the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school. Being a part of two school musicals; Being a part of the best cross country team ever.

• List your favorite high school classes. AP World History – Geography quizzes and lunch conversations; Physics – messing around with Ketola and Todd.

• What activities were you involved in during high school? DECA – 3 years; Student Council – 4 years; History Club – 2 years; Yearbook – 3 years; Cross Country – 4 years; Track – 4 years.

• What are your plans after graduation? I will attend South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and major in Mining Engineering.
