MARATHON CITY — The Colfax golf team was in action at Pine Valley golf course on Monday, May 2 and came away with a fourth place finish.
The team finished with a team score of 369 which was good enough for fourth place on the afternoon. The Vikings had two varsity players finish in the top ten on the day to lead the team.
Leading the way for the Vikings was senior Trevor Seston with an 84. He finished first on the team and fifth place overall in the meet. Just one shot behind Seston was fellow senior Brett Prince who had an 84 and finished sixth overall on the day.
The three other varsity players struggled a little more on the course. Coming in third for Colfax was sophomore Richard Stehling with a 99 and a couple shots back was senior Trey Guillickson with a 101. Rounding out the varsity golfers was freshman Dennan Fogarty with a 106.
This was Colfax’s first time playing at Pine Valley and they did not know what to expect. Head Coach Vince Ross was very happy with their performance.
“I’m proud of how the kids were able to play well on a course that we have never played before,” stated Ross after the meet.
The team was also able to see a few teams they will face later at the regional meet and were able to keep an eye out on how they faired on the afternoon.
“We were able to golf against a few teams that are in our regional and good to see what kind of scores we need to have to move on to the sectional at Marathon,” said Ross about who they were able to watch.
Colfax will be looking to back up their strong performance with another one when they play at Whitetail golf course on Friday, May 6.
