Colfax baseball can’t hang with Bloomer

by Samuel Ripp

COLFAX — The Colfax baseball team was in action at home Friday, April 29 against Bloomer and took the loss by a score of 6-2.

The Vikings are still searching for their first win of the season and will have to continue that search as the season goes on. They still have plenty of games left in the season to get on a little run.

Sophomore pitcher Brett Schindler took the mound against Bloomer and pitched very well despite suffering the loss. He went the full seven innings allowing seven hits and three walks. He only allowed two earned runs but the team had six errors on the afternoon. He also added six strikeouts.

Bloomer scored a quick run in the top of the first inning to grab the lead, but Colfax did a nice job to answer back in the bottom half of the inning with senior Jarrod Rudi driving home fellow senior Tyler Dawson on an RBI single.

It was back-and-forth game to start, with both teams scoring in the first four innings. Bloomer went ahead by one after adding another run in the second and one more in the third for a two-run cushion.

In the bottom of the third, the Vikings clawed back and trailed by one after sophomore Mitch Kiekhafer hit a sacrifice fly to center to bring home Brady Simonson.

Bloomer took control after that, as it scored two more in the top of the fourth and then added one more insurance run in the seventh inning.

The Vikings could only manage six hits on the night and could not produce enough offense to stay with Bloomer. Collecting hits for the Vikings included: Simonson with two, Rudi, Kiekhafer, sophomore Nate Polden, and senior Zach Meyer.

The two RBIs went to Rudi and Kiekhafer to add to their season totals.

The Vikings have some big conference games on their way as they will be in Boyceville (May 2) and Durand (May 5) and will host Mondovi next Monday, May 9.
